MIBR move on in Flashpoint Phase 1; Envy eliminated

MIBR are through to Group A's consolidation final in Flashpoint Stage 1 following a quick 2-0 victory over Envy.

The Brazilian side move on in the lower bracket after a much-needed victory against a team fielding a stand-in. The North American side, who were playing their second match with coach Nikola "⁠LEGIJA⁠" Ninić in lieu of Kaleb "⁠moose⁠" Jayne, had taken a map off Gen.G in their opening match, but here they were simply battered into submission by the Brazilians, who put up a water-tight defense on both maps.

Envy are the first team to be eliminated from the first phase of Flashpoint, picking up just 15 points towards the ranking that will be used to determine the eight teams going to the playoffs. They now face a herculean task to be able to amass enough points in the second group phase to scrape into the playoffs.

MIBR went for Envy's throats from the offset, racing to an 8-0 lead on the CT side of Overpass, a map they had just played twice this year, with mixed results. The North American team then finally responded as they put together a string of rounds, but MIBR tightened up and ended the half with 12 rounds.

fer showed signs of his old form in this one-sided series

Fernando "⁠fer⁠" Alvarenga had everyone talking at half-time after racking up 22 frags and averaging 160 damage per round, but Vito "⁠kNgV-⁠" Giuseppe stole the show after the break. He picked Envy's defense apart with back-to-back quad-kills with the Krieg, setting MIBR up for a comfortable lead and shutting down the North Americans, who had been briefly revitalised by a great pistol round from Buğra "⁠Calyx⁠" Arkın.

Michał "⁠MICHU⁠" Müller opened up the action on Mirage with a quad-kill in the first round, but there was no follow-up as MIBR responded immediately with nothing but Desert Eagles and a Scout. That was the start of a dominant period from the Brazilian team, who refused to take their foot off the pedal, though they gifted Noah "⁠Nifty⁠" Francis a 1v5 clutch in the final round of the half, which ended with a 12-3 advantage for Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo's troops - who were in no mood to take pity on their opponents and quickly wrapped things up.
