Astralis claim first ESL Pro League Stage 2 win over FaZe

Astralis have claimed their first victory in the second stage of ESL Pro League Season 11 Europe after beating FaZe in the third round.

The two teams had both been sitting at a 0-2 record ahead of the start of the match, which put serious implications on their chances to secure the all-important top-three finish by the end of the group stage.

While the Danes have kept their hopes alive with a 2-0 victory against FaZe, the European side now have a 0-3 record and not only need to win both of their remaining matches against Natus Vincere and OG but also rely heavily on other teams' results, which could still put them in a tiebreaking scenario.

Astralis take down FaZe in the battle for provisional last place

You could be forgiven for thinking Nuke would be a walk in the park for Astralis when the Danes started off their opponent's pick up 8-1 on the CT side, but it ended up being far from that as FaZe found an avenue back in the opening map on the back of Helvijs "broky" Saukants's 1v1 clutch, which helped them turn things around and pick up five rounds in the first half.

With a pistol round going their way, soon the scoreline was almost level, and even though Astralis managed to speed away and grab a 14-10 lead, FaZe still held on and took it to overtime. There, the two teams went back and forth until it was decided in the last round, in which a well-placed grenade by Nicolai "device" Reedtz sent Marcelo "coldzera" David flying in a 1v1 clutch.

When it came to Overpass, the Danish powerhouse was in complete control from the start and never let go. FaZe only mustered three rounds on the defense, and when a second-round forcebuy spearheaded by Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth's Scout quad-kill went Astralis' way, their fate was sealed.

I felt like it was a fixed match considering how poorly FaZe played on Overpass. E.g. during the last round magisk with an SMG won a duel vs NiKo with an AK47. WTF? That's not even funny.

That was just a tilted NiKo asking for an AK drop from olof thinking he can Ace the round but ended up dying to an smg at long range.

I think Astralis should pray now to Faze and Mouse in order to qualify
2020-04-08 00:49
If astralis win both matches then there are 3 ways they can qualify ^^ one of fnatic, mouz and navi have to lose every game then astralis will qualify
2020-04-08 01:49
#36
 |
Azerbaijan hacizeynal
so it is almost impossible ? ))
2020-04-08 02:12
Why impossible? When astralis want to qualify they have to win vs mouz, so they got 1 loss Fnatic has to win vs mouz and navi, which they will probably lose
2020-04-08 14:53
Any chance for other scenario that maybe, slightly, more realistic than that? lmao...

Yeah I remember that story in BTN they told it when device twitted that. Apparently Coldzera was telling in his stream in brazilian a story about how he made device cry when he confronted him in an afterparty because he told that Astralis' players were always nice but when they started winning became super arrogant and stuff and stopped talking to him. And device came with that comeback twitt which was perfect

I don't even think the FaZe members even practice with each other when they are not playing pro matches. They don't check corners like silvers. I think they are going to bring changes to this roster after the Rio Major based on their performance. But this is so painful to watch. The FaZe with karrigan and guardian was way more consistent
2020-04-08 07:30
To be honest Faze are playing extremely and surprisingly well for team without coach or IGL. I don't understand why owners or management refuses to hire some but who Am I to judge...
2020-04-08 07:41
Surprisingly? They have so-called super team, that cant perform.
2020-04-08 07:47
No team can be super without coach and IGL no matter how many star names do you have.
2020-04-08 11:54
Well then they should stop kicking their IGLs
