FURIA eliminate MIBR in ESL Pro League NA
FURIA avoided elimination in the first round of the four-team double-elimination bracket after putting up an impressive performance in the Brazilian derby, repeating the victory from the round-robin stage. This time around, Andrei "arT" Piovezan's troops required just two maps to best their rivals, who were completely outplayed on their map pick of Vertigo. Despite having won just two of their last nine games on the map, FURIA troops were a joy to watch as they made light work of their stunned opponents.
In their defense, MIBR did not let that blow get to them and looked an improved side on Mirage, though their spent the majority of the game catching up. They will have very little time to lick their wounds as they must now turn their attention to Friday's Flashpoint match against Orgless, while FURIA await the loser of the series between Liquid and Evil Geniuses in Saturday's consolidation final.
Starting out on the CT side of Vertigo, FURIA strolled to a 9-1 lead, with MIBR's sole round coming on the back of great kills from Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo and Fernando "fer" Alvarenga. Ignacio "meyern" Meyer, who had yet to record a single frag, then woke up and reminded everyone of just how explosive he can be with a spectacular quad-kill, giving his team some respite and forcing FURIA to go on eco. Riding that wave of positivity, FalleN's troops brought the deficit to 9-4 before FURIA claimed the final rounds of the half.
FURIA added more misery to MIBR as they picked up the pistol round and the subsequent two, bringing the scoreline to 14-4. Henrique "HEN1" Teles then unlocked the defense with a quad-kill in the first full gun round, setting his team for an emphatic victory.
MIBR entered Mirage out for blood and picked up an early lead, but it wouldn't last. After getting their economy in order, FURIA put together a string of rounds, and they fended off late pressure from the MIBR defense to finish the half up by one round.
The early stages of the second half were highly-contested as neither teams managed to stamp their authority on proceedings, but a successful force-buy from FURIA tipped the game in their favor and propelled them into a 14-9 lead. MIBR refused to throw in the towel and took the game the full distance after being revitalized by a sensational 1v4 clutch by FalleN, only to be caught off-guard in the final round by FURIA's aggressive setup.
