Cloud9 to Flashpoint upper semi-finals over Gen.G
Cloud9 secured a spot in the upper bracket semi-finals of Flashpoint 1 after prevailing 2-0 over Gen.G with wins on Vertigo and Nuke.
The Gen.G trio of Damian "daps" Steele, Timothy "autimatic" Ta, and Kenneth "koosta" Suen were unable to find success in their first match against their former organisation, with Cloud9 taking the win in a two-map series to set up a semi-final clash against MAD Lions. Johnny "JT" Theodosiou and company entered the series looking to make up for a flat showing against HAVU in the Phase 2 Group A final, in which they had fallen in overtime on their pick of Vertigo before being trounced on Mirage.
Cloud9 looked determined to make good on that effort as they kicked off Vertigo with a solid lead, but a resurgence from Gen.G kept the scoreline close throughout the map as the two teams grappled for control, with Cloud9 needing overtime to edge out the win. Nuke unfolded in similar fashion as, after posting a 13-6 lead, Cloud9 struggled to close things out on the T side, requiring 29 rounds to eventually take the win.

Cloud9 were quick to pull ahead as their pick of Vertigo got underway, looking in better form on the map than in their previous efforts as they won opening duels against daps' troops for the first six rounds to take an early lead on the offense. Gen.G's first round came off the back of a 2vs4 recovery by autimatic and Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand, and from there, the team composed themselves, only conceding one additional round to a quad kill from Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek as they rallied back to narrowly pull ahead 8-7 at the break.
The forces of Ian "motm" Hardy and JT combined to grant Cloud9 a win in their CT pistol, with the team converting the ensuing anti-eco to steal away the lead before Gen.G were able to respond, securing six of the next seven rounds to once again pull ahead 14-10. Three kills from JT put Cloud9 back in contention, with motm and Sonic securing multi-kills of their own in the following rounds to help tie the scoreline at 14-14. Ricky "floppy" Kemery came to life as a crucial quad kill helped his team secure map point, but koosta fought back with three frags of his own to force overtime.
There, Cloud9 reigned supreme on the defense, winning all three rounds before a 1vs5 ace clutch from koosta following the side swap denied JT's side a shutout. Still, Cloud9 held strong, dropping one additional round before edging out the win.
Cloud9 maintained momentum as Nuke got underway, grabbing a 4-0 lead before Gen.G got on the board, coming out on top of a back-and-forth battle for control to post five of their own. Josh "oSee" Ohm's AWP and multi-kills from motm and floppy swung momentum back in the favour of Cloud9, allowing the roster to keep Gen.G at bay for the latter portion of the first half and post a 10-5 lead at the break.
A pistol win for Gen.G was quickly overshadowed as a force-buy from Cloud9 put JT and company in control, seeing them move up to a 13-6 scoreline before Gen.G began to claw back. Although seven of the ensuing eight rounds went their way, Gen.G were unable to take the lead as Cloud9 found their footing at the end of the map, fighting back in a 3vs5 in round 29 to take home the win and send their opponents to the lower bracket of the double-elimination playoffs.
