Envy upset Liquid in Road to Rio
Liquid have been dealt their first loss of Group B after they opened their Road to Rio campaign with wins over Bad News Bears and MIBR in their first two matches, while Envy now boast a 2-1 record with a previous loss to FURIA and a win over Yeah.
It seemed as if Liquid were in good form as the series got underway, leading at the onset of Nuke on the CT side with a 4-1 scoreline. However, Envy's trio of Michał "MICHU" Müller, Buğra "Calyx" Arkın, and Kaleb "moose" Jayne began to create and capitalize on openings in Liquid's defensive setups, keeping up a rapid pace to win nine straight rounds and post a 10-5 lead at the break.
A pistol win and subsequent conversion allowed Nick "nitr0" Cannella's troops to post seven rounds as the second half kicked off, but a Deagle triple kill from MICHU swung momentum back in the favour of Envy, who wasted little time in closing out the map, 16-7.
A USP-S triple kill from Keith "NAF" Markovic gave Liquid the chance to bounce back on Dust2, with the team securing two ensuing rounds against a force-buy and eco from Envy to reside upon a 3-0 lead on the offense. From there though, the half was all Envy as Liquid were unable to break through the defensive setups of Noah "Nifty" Francis and company, managing 1.75 kills per round as a team while Envy won twelve in a row for a 12-3 scoreline at halftime.
Another pistol win allowed Liquid to add two to their tally, but just when it looked as if the North American roster would be able to make a contest of the map, they were felled by the Deagles of Nifty and moose to once again grant Envy control of the proceedings. Three in a row quickly put Envy on match point, and Liquid were only able to add one additional round to the board before they were sent packing, 16-7.
