FURIA remain undefeated in Road to Rio with win over Liquid

FURIA took down Liquid to remain on top of the Group B standings in the North American division of ESL One: Road to Rio.

FURIA now boast a 4-0 record in the group and only a domestic matchup against MIBR stands in their way of ending this stage with a perfect 15 points. Liquid, meanwhile, have dropped down to fourth in the group, with just two victories from four matches, and may not make the playoffs even if they beat Yeah in their final clash, on Sunday.

The clash between FURIA and Liquid was noticeably one-sided as the series got underway, with the Brazilian side dominating on their pick of Vertigo with a 16-5 win. A third map looked to be on the cards as Liquid led at the onset of their pick of Inferno, but FURIA's abuse of the B site ultimately allowed Andrei "arT" Piovezan to lead his troops to victory, 16-13.

KSCERATO and yuurih were the driving forces behind FURIA's win

A triple kill from Vinicius "VINI" Figueiredo kicked things off for FURIA on the Terrorist side of their map pick, Vertigo, and although a force-buy response came in from Liquid in round two, an immediate answer from FURIA swung momentum back in the Brazilians' favour. Continuous abuse of the North American side's A site defense left them with few rounds to their name, with triple kills from Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken and Nick "nitr0" Cannella being key in Liquid garnering a meager four rounds by the break.

Any comeback hopes that Liquid housed were quickly dashed as three USP-S frags from Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato kept FURIA in control following the side swap. From there, arT's troops wasted little time in closing out the map, to move the series onward to Inferno.

Liquid seemed a revitalized side as their pick got underway, taking seven of the first eight rounds to immediately put FURIA on the back foot. It took a triple kill from Yuri "yuurih" Santos and a 1vs2 clutch from KSCERATO to get the Brazilian squad their second, but it was there that they managed to stabilize as arT took down four in the ensuing round to break Liquid's economy, leading to an 8-7 half in favour of the North Americans.

Keith "NAF" Markovic and Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski's combined efforts were not enough to help Liquid recover a 3vs5 B site retake following the side swap, allowing FURIA to take the lead for the first time on Inferno at 9-8. A back-and-forth brawl for control following the first gun round gave Liquid a chance as they came out ahead, leading 12-10, but the lack of banana control in the following rounds and the fast pace from FURIA gave arT and company the space they needed to rally back and take the win.

Say what!? It's not adreN's fault... Face it, nitr0 is a poor player and even worse an IGL, stew flicks not connecting for months now and NAF is often not present on server - playing braindead rush CS and dying for free. If you saw the game, Liquid were losing a lot of duels, while FURIA players were on point and ready to trade... In the end it was EZ for the best BR team and arguably the best team of both Americas as of now!

Liquid doesn't even have an analyst which is in full fault of Adren. Taco and all the other players have confidence in Nitr0 and its clear that Liquid is having trouble with getting ready for their opponents.

still they play good. If you want to be a good team you have to perform both online and offline. For example liquid can't online

it doesnt work like that, imagine playing online events for half a year-year and getting clapped every tourney, when real lans come back they wil suck as much ass still, they wont magically become good XD

Very few team in CS GO´s history has achieved what Liquid did last year. They were one of the best teams in around 2 years before their performance startet dipping around the Berlin Major last year. I have no doubt that the players still is good, but they sure dont have any confidence left, maybe its time for changes, maybe a new coach or a roster change to mix it up and bring in some new inputs
2020-05-02 10:43
i strongly believe that the problem with them is the lack of confidence on both online and LAN (especially online), new coach or maybe recruit an esport psychologist might solve the problem. kassad for coach while adreN as the analyst would be super beneficial for the team
2020-05-02 11:15
I agree with you, the guys still is great players, but sometimes you need some changes, just think of the old Faze team with Karrigan, Niko, Rain, Olof and Guardian they were great players all of them, but i didnt work at the end so they had to make changes, and its first now you can see the rewards of it. But Adren must leave as Coach, i really dont see what he does for the team. He just stand there like a tree, not motivating his players and giving them a pat on the back when needed.
2020-05-02 12:29
but the thing is with faze clan, all of faze players are experienced players combined into one super team, but on the liquid side, 80% of them have played together since 2016 (cmiiw) and their chemistry must've been really good at this point, and kicking anyone except stewie would be a loss for team liquid because as soon as one of liquid's player becomes a free agent then it's very likely that tier 1 teams would surely pick them up and liquid won't have any good replacement, the only good replacement in my mind is brehze for stewie, because tarik have played with stewie back in the cloud9 and mibr/sk days and both of them have very similar personalities. TL;DR: liquid don't have any good replacement on the player side except brehze for stewie, so that way maybe liquid should try to change the coach first, if it doesn't work then maybe it's time for roster change

2020-05-02 02:13
nope. it has not begun. it has been happening for awhile now. they haven't looked like they would be able to win a tournament since the major, and now this? online or not, multiple bad losses in a row in an important competition for major seeding is just not what should be coming from these guys. Yes, there are multiple chances down the line, but this team should not need them, they should be motivated enough for this one to actually get their shit together. So no, I don't think the decay is beginning, I think we are pretty far in at this point.
