FaZe secure first place in Road to Rio Group B, mousesports out of playoffs running
FaZe have secured a berth in the ESL One: Road to Rio - Europe upper semi-finals after beating Copenhagen Flames for their sixth win in the group stage, while GODSENT put mousesports out of the running for playoffs.
Nikola "NiKo" Kovač and company have kept their winning streak in Road to Rio despite a closely-contested series against the Danish side, who managed to surprise FaZe with a dominant defense on the opening map, Inferno, but ended up losing the series after falling on Dust2 and Train.
With a sixth win in the bag and a final match against c0ntact to go, the European squad has already secured the first seed in Group B, which will see them pitted against Group A's second-placed team — NIP or Astralis — in the upper bracket semi-finals on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, mousesports have continued to suffer from poor form in the Regional Major Ranking tournament, as GODSENT have dealt the Finn "karrigan" Andersen-led side their fourth loss in six matches after inspired performances from Martin "STYKO" Styk and Jesse "zehN" Linjala on Overpass and Train, respectively.
Despite a four-way or three-way tie for fourth place including mousesports being possible, Chris "chrisJ" de Jong's squad can not come out on top of any tiebreaking scenario. The remaining three playoffs spots in Group B will be contested among G2, GODSENT, Copenhagen Flames, and North in the last round of matches on Sunday at 18:30 .
