smooya, Snappi close in on TIGER move

Owen "smooya" Butterfield and Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer are locked in talks with Mongolian side TIGER, HLTV.org has learned.

The British AWPer is on the brink of joining the team on a free transfer, while the Danish tactician will be bought of his contract with Heroic, who had moved him to the bench last month as part of an overhaul of the squad.

The duo will bring in a wealth of experience to TIGER, who recently raised eyebrows by winning the ESL One: Road to Rio Asian stop after beating TYLOO in the final. The Mongolian team will retain just 960 of the 1600 RMR points that they won following these changes, which will see Bold "ncl" Batsuh and Yesuntumur "nin9" Gantulga step down from the roster.

smooya is poised to continue his career in Asia

smooya has been without a team since the end of March, when he was released by Chaos due to being unable to return to the United States to reunite with the team after returning home to get his P1 visa approved. He returned to his best form during his brief tenure with the North American team, for whom he averaged a 1.32 rating.

Snappi returned to Heroic in September after a first stint with the team between 2016 and 2018. The 29-year-old initially took over the in-game leadership following Benjamin "blameF" Bremer's departure but relinquished the reins to Casper "cadiaN" Møller at the start of the year.

With these changes, TIGER will have:

Mongolia Gan-Erdene "dobu" Batbold
Mongolia Batbayar "kabal" Bat-Enkh
Mongolia Erdenetsogt "erkaSt" Gantulga
United Kingdom Owen "smooya" Butterfield
Denmark Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer

Can't speak for kabal and dobu, but erkaSt spent a lot of time in Grayhound and before that in Immunity. He's probably very experienced in english comms, and I wouldn't be surprised if the other two are as well. An international team can still be a solid team. Bizzare roster move, I think literally no one expected this, but good luck to them! I'll be stoked to watch them play.

I really enjoyed TyLoo when BnTeT was there, but then again I still enjoy BnTeT in Gen.G so I guess I'm more of a BnTeT fan than a TyLoo fan. I can't really say I enjoy the Asian scene at all because there's no team really stepping up to the task right now. For a while TyLoo could put up a decent fight against EU and NA competition but not anymore. TIGER stepping up to the task in Rio would be great, and given they now have smooya and Snappi they have a real good shot at that. (Not necessarily saying the previous two players couldn't, but the Asian talent pool is shallow and smooya + Snappi are proven talents who can perform well) Then again, my biggest issue with the AU scene is that it's basically a Renegades domination. If TIGER manage to step up to another level, the Asian scene will be the same. But hopefully once COVID ends, both AU and Asian teams can get some more shots at playing LANs, and good teams like ORDER and possibly TyLoo if this new lineup works can get some experience against international competition. Hopefully with these cross-transfers between Asia and other regions, like BnTeT going to Gen.G, we can start to see some more Asian talents in good teams. People like Kaze. And of course, who wouldn't wanna see PPOverdose in a top team?

Still, if they got a shot at playing any other team than AVANT, GroundZero, Chiefs, Paradox etc. I think they could improve a lot. The same goes for all the aforementioned teams as well. International recognition could also lead to more young talent showing up in the region, which is healthy for the entire sport.

I think all teams have some redeeming factor, then again I haven't been paying much close attention to them all. Renegades in particular, of course, I'd rate them just as well as any other tier 2 team in EU and NA if they only got a shot at playing the same leagues. I think AVANT and ORDER have some good potential as well if they could get more opportunities to develop.
2020-05-16 20:22
Order nearly beat RNG in the finals but choked hard at infeno tho

2020-05-17 02:25
Actually theyd have 3 people who all speak very good english. Smooya being fluent, Snappi has a good grasp on the language, and erkast who spent a good amount of time in Australia. If the other 2 have good english this could be a threatening T3 team and probably the best in Asia off of Snappis IGLing since hes gonna play teams much worse than hes used too (T2 Asia is like T4 NA at times. I've seen games in ESEA Open that were more organized) and hes gonna be able to possibly frag out to an okay level and just boost the team

Things have worked out, though, haven't they? Also, as someone else mentioned, kabal and dobu appearently spoke english in 5POWER. Now, I guess that team's limited success doesn't prove that they can communicate in english, but at least they have done it before and don't need to start from scratch.

2020-05-16 19:54
For me it's a 50/50 move. It is an upgrade in skill level but they lose a potentiel major spot by by being behind tyloo with 540 pts deficit.

might not be enough if Tyloo make top3 in both of them and to be honnest tyloo stay the best team in asia (or 2nd best with this possible move from Tigger).
2020-05-16 20:05
why they lose 540 pts can u explain ?
2020-05-16 20:04
1 reply
Every time a team change a player between each tournament, they lose 20% of their points/player change. So in case of Tigger, they will lose 40% (1600->960). Same happen for example in europe: North will lose 20% of their points from this spring tournament because they chang one player. Other example: Faze, Vitality, G2, ence or mibr.

N9ne is still very young and hungry. I’m not saying he is better than smooya but he has still a lot of room to improve. I’m just fearing this move could destroy the synergy of Tiger and they might leave like after 6 months before finding the synergy with the new team. PS: for Kkura check your facts 1st. smooya seems like an upgrade to n9ne, but i cant understand this move as well, if its real. Tiger showed a solid performance on ESL:RtR with some stupid rounds, but hey they are a quite fresh team, so mistakes can happen... International teams with a one-nation-core looks promising right now as you can see on G2, Sprout, Nemiga etc... SO GL to this bois if its real

get machinegun in as well to replace one of the other mongolian players, and thats a really good team honestly. erkast speaks really good english, machinegun had experience with an international sqaud before too. smooya and snappi will tear most of the asian teams apart as well, i think its a solid move regardless of machinegun anyway.
2020-05-16 23:36
so all smooya needs now is a South American team (could get stabbed after he arrives considering how much they hate him after flashpoint) and an African team (could actually see happening if he goes to ATK). He's already been in NA (Chaos) , Europe (UKCS and BIG), OCE (RNG stand-in) and now Asia. He might need Antarctica to have people if he wants another few shots at a team.

Sucks that they're gonna lose some RMR points and the current 1st place spot in RtR Asia, but this move almost guarantees them a win and a high placing in the Summer and Fall series and the spot at the major. Dobu is a solid Carry Erkast is a great fragger in the Asian scene Kabal is great for Support Smooya is a great AWP Snappi is a good IGL This will be the new top team in Asia.

True but honestly at this point odds are decent that at one of those tourneys Tyloo and Tiger will play in group stage.

So you clearly didn't watch RtR Asia. Which is surprising cause it's a bigger scene than yours.

As a tiger fan this is pretty good move because ncl is actually not good player. About nin9 his experience isn't enough to play in majors. But they will lose rmr points and it will be so hard to make it to major. And what if they sucks Snappi is 29 now hm

I worry about language barrier and toxicity. Smooya is tier 1 player and our players are not good actually so Smooya and Snappie will end up getting mad maybe i guess.

smooya kept up with playing in T2 NA so I doubt he'll have much issue playing a step down.

Not worth bcs if they pick Smooya and Snappi they will have only 900 RMR points and if TyLoo will take second place in rest 2 tournaments they will have more RMR points (Quick maths)
