DreamHack Showdown tournament series announced with $100,000
DreamHack has announced the return of DreamHack Showdown, its female tournament series, with four online events and a total purse of $100,000.
The first DreamHack Showdown took place on LAN at DreamHack Valencia in July 2019, with eight teams playing for $100,000. The Swedish tournament organizer has now revealed it will bring four more of its all-female tournaments with another $100,000 on the line.
The tournament series will consist of two events in Europe and two in North America, to be played online, with a prize pool of $25,000 apiece. The first pair of events, DreamHack Showdown Summer, will run on July 17-19 in Europe and on July 24-26 in North America, while the other two online tournaments, DreamHack Showdown Fall, will take place at an unconfirmed date later on in the year.
The format that will be used at DreamHack Showdown events will be a double-elimination bracket featuring two invited teams and four teams that will have made their way through open qualifiers. The two invited teams will be seeded into the second round of the upper-bracket, while the four teams from open qualifiers will face each other in the first round.
“Following the success of the 2019 all women’s CS:GO tournament in Valencia, we are pleased to announce the 2020 DreamHack Showdown. DreamHack is committed to supporting diversity, so this event has become particularly special to us. These are going to be tremendous competitions featuring some of the best women CS:GO players in the world — it is truly a not-to-be-missed tournament!”
