Astralis dismantle North in DreamHack Masters

Astralis dismantled North in their second match in DreamHack Masters Spring - Europe to take the lead in Group A.

Astralis won the second all-Danish derby in the group stage, this time in much more convincing fashion after their opening series of the tournament against Heroic in Jakob "JUGi" Hansen's rather unimpressive debut saw the heavyweights sweat as they got off to a slow start.

North, who are still missing a key player in Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye as Kristoffer "Kristou" Aamand continues his stand-in stint for the illness-struck star, were no match for their domestic rivals in the two teams' first encounter of 2020.

JUGi made a better account of himself the second time around

They chose Vertigo to start the series but quickly found themselves with their backs against the wall when Astralis got off to a dominant start, with their newest addition, JUGi, spearheading the defense. Key plays from René "cajunb" Borg in 2v5 and 1v2 clutches gave Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen's men a chance as they entered the second half down 4-11, but their domestic rivals shut the door on any potential comeback with a pistol round victory, rallying to a 16-4 win.

As the series switched to Inferno, Astralis went on to pick up a good early lead as Terrorists on the back of a second-round forcebuy victory. This time, North managed a response earlier with a Deagle win and a couple of great reads coming from MSL's calls for aggression in middle, but a 1v3 clutch from JUGi stopped them in their tracks.

Astralis ended up clinching a comfortable 10-5 half and topped it off with a pistol round win, quickly reaching match point and closing out the series before it ever got dangerous at 16-8, 2-0.

Its going The way i thought could go, Astralis keeps winning without Glaive, cause hes really not that important as igl. Astralis is the only team that Glave had succes with, he is great player fitting team no doubt, but is he as good igl as people present him to be? I think of him more like a Pronax kinda guy.

Magisk is great player and he is considered atleast by me since he joined north a top 10player
2020-05-20 20:46
Astralis kept choking with Glaive for almost a year, its not just him who helped them, its many things like finding a player that fits team(Magisk), letting Dupreeh play entry again, Device stoped choking in inportant series, their psychologist who obviously helped them.

What i said Gla1ve was turning point for astralis he is reason why Astralis grown so far behind all those years he know's how to setup , read other player defences u dont need quite huge philosophy to be IGL but to be the one of the greatest u need to have talent thats what Gla1ve has.
2020-05-20 20:53

There is no possible way for you to know this after one succesfull stint with one team. As i counted, many changes helped Astralis to become best, its just shortsited to say its only Glaive addition.
2020-05-20 21:00
really not that important as igl....omg he is the best igl in the world,,,the reason you write it is because you are not an astralis fan and nothing about counter strike ,,, he make the strats ,,, whit zonic ,,, and the plat is there to magic ,,, uhmmm you must be a kid ,,
2020-05-20 20:44

Mate most Astralis strats are rehash of Zonic former teams in 1,6, its not Glaive addition. I know he is best igl cause of 4 majors, well i want to se him perform in diffrent team. Then maybe he is best igl for now only succes he found is with one team and this is fact.

You won't be able to tell the importance and impact of Gla1ve until a LAN tournament. Zonic is also in teamspeak who is as talented as Gla1ve maybe more in strategic perspective. Gla1ve is master of rotations and push calls. Open some Astralis demo and just focus on rotations on the minimap. Calling these under high pressure requires highly deep knowledge and experience.

Even Karrigan said that mid round calling was easy in Astralis cause of Device, Xyp and Dupreeh.

Sorry for the late response. Please also read other answers he gave about Karrigan. reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/5o.. "It's a tough reality, but we gave up on Karrigan's way of calling. It's not mainly his fault, it's also ours. We stopped believing in his calls, we hesitated and always felt we wouldn't win, and we couldn't overcome that obstacle, so we had to make a change. Gla1ve is a great caller, and he brings a lot of variation to our game, which we needed. But the key thing he brought, was faith. We started believing in each other again and we started to believe in victories."
2020-06-03 23:24
the good thing about gla1ve isn't about his rotations, it's the fact that he actually puts effort into analyzing enemy no matter how high their ranking is. unlike flukus
2020-05-21 06:43

I think Jugi (and Magisk) will have a honeymoon period with succes. Astralis is the most studied team, and now opposition will use a little time to adjust to "New Astralis". Once they do that, the honeymoon is over. The routine and skill of Xyp, Device and Dupreeh can´t carry Jugi and Magisk in their new roles, so they will need a steep learning curve. Magisk and Zonic will need to adjust between games and in mid game. Jugi will have to overcome players, who know how he plays with Astralis. Anyway I´m pretty sure Glaive will be back in form in time for Major

How does Magisk IGL'ing suddenly lead to him getting new positions and not being able to frag somehow? Why would he decline in form just because he is calling ? It's not like he's gonna sit in pit on Inferno and go "I'm the IGL now so I better not frag too much". I don't understand why it should make Magisk any worse of a player just because he is calling strats to be honest?
2020-05-21 20:01

Nerves? Multitasking is hard? New positions? I only saw the Astralis CT-side on Nuke. Glaive usually plays a crucial role in Yard. Jugi can´t play that, so Astralis swapped positions and it went badly.
2020-05-21 20:31

Astralis has recently released Voice Comms videos. Seems mpst times they don't need their IGL to micro-manage them and they all do pretty well calling out plays or giving input to what to do. So I'm not sure how stressful it as being an IGL besides calling the play at the beginning of the round, pick(ban maps and working with zonic to develop new strats or anti-stratting someone. I'm just not sure how much it impacts a guy's aim in the server. And yeah, JUGi will ofcourse take some time to adapt and find out what position he's best at.
2020-05-21 21:09
