Astralis dismantle North in DreamHack Masters
Astralis won the second all-Danish derby in the group stage, this time in much more convincing fashion after their opening series of the tournament against Heroic in Jakob "JUGi" Hansen's rather unimpressive debut saw the heavyweights sweat as they got off to a slow start.
North, who are still missing a key player in Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye as Kristoffer "Kristou" Aamand continues his stand-in stint for the illness-struck star, were no match for their domestic rivals in the two teams' first encounter of 2020.
They chose Vertigo to start the series but quickly found themselves with their backs against the wall when Astralis got off to a dominant start, with their newest addition, JUGi, spearheading the defense. Key plays from René "cajunb" Borg in 2v5 and 1v2 clutches gave Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen's men a chance as they entered the second half down 4-11, but their domestic rivals shut the door on any potential comeback with a pistol round victory, rallying to a 16-4 win.
As the series switched to Inferno, Astralis went on to pick up a good early lead as Terrorists on the back of a second-round forcebuy victory. This time, North managed a response earlier with a Deagle win and a couple of great reads coming from MSL's calls for aggression in middle, but a 1v3 clutch from JUGi stopped them in their tracks.
Astralis ended up clinching a comfortable 10-5 half and topped it off with a pistol round win, quickly reaching match point and closing out the series before it ever got dangerous at 16-8, 2-0.
