Liquid, 100 Thieves to take part in Gamers Without Borders $2 million charity tournament

Liquid and 100 Thieves will participate in a showmatch to help unite gamers in the fight against Covid-19.

The two sides will be the sole representation for North America in the tournament, with the winner of the best-of-three showmatch securing $150,000 for a charity of their choice and the runner-up deciding the recipient of their $100,000 prize.

The showmatch is part of the $10 million Gamers Without Borders initiative, a series of tournaments created by the Saudi Arabian Federation for Electronic and Intellectual Sports (SAFEIS) aimed towards helping "one of many international charities fighting on the front-line against the spread of coronavirus."

Liquid will face off against 100 Thieves in a charity showmatch

in Europe, the likes of FaZe, G2, and Natus Vincere are among the six teams who will take part in a three-day tournament produced by ESL from May 29-31, with the winner earning $750,000 for a charity of their choice.

Teams will battle through best-of-three matches en route to the grand final, which will play out as a best-of-five. Notably, the tournament will experiment with the implementation of Max Rounds 12 (MR12), meaning the first team to 13 rounds will be the winner. The reduced length of matches has been a subject of discussion lately, including in last week's Gamechanger episode of HLTV Confirmed.

The team list for the European tournament consists of:

The $2 million prize pool will be broken down as follows:

Europe:

1. $750,000
2. $500,000
3. $150,000
4. $150,000
5. $100,000
6. $100,000

North America:

1. $150,000
2. $100,000

good for them

That's marketing. They actually don't honestly care about any charity, let's be honest. But they will get some visibility for their kindness. It will boost up the ORG and their sponsors. And probably the sponsors of these organisations will pay some value to them. Basically, they don't truly care about that, but at the end, it helps and that's good enough.

vitality is quite rich but they aren't well known enough. I have a feeling Astralis rejected the invite because they don't want to burnout too much. FURIA isn't as famous as 100T and Liquid

decreasing rounds is nice but experiment with the time. same rounds less timer makes for faster pace games. 1 minute round wouldnt be terrible included with bomb timer/15 buy timer. problem is even a 16-7 game is 40 minutes.
