Xyp9x takes leave - Report

Astralis are currently exploring options of replacing Andreas "⁠Xyp9x⁠" Højsleth, who has decided to take a temporary leave from the active roster, according to a report from DBLTAP.

According to the report, which HLTV.org can confirm, the Danish heavyweights have attempted to acquire Jonas "⁠Lekr0⁠" Olofsson from Ninjas in Pyjamas and accelerate the process of the transfer of Patrick "⁠es3tag⁠" Hansen, whose tenure with Astralis will otherwise start after the end of his contract with Heroic, at the beginning of July.

However, neither possibility has come to fruition so far, which has forced the coach, Danny "⁠zonic⁠" Sørensen, to play in Xyp9x's place in practice, the report states.

Xyp9x follows gla1ve out of the active roster

According to 1pv.fr, Astralis also enquired Vitality about Alex "⁠ALEX⁠" McMeekin's availability but their transfer approach was snubbed as the two teams will face off in the upcoming BLAST Premier Spring Europe Showdown.

The 24-year-old's decision to take time off sees one of the original Astralis members follow Lukas "⁠gla1ve⁠" Rossander out of the active roster for the time being, after the in-game leader took medical leave in mid-May for three months to deal with symptoms of stress and burnout.

The Copenhagen-based organization had signed Jakob "⁠JUGi⁠" Hansen as a sixth member of the team to help deal with such scenarios, but as things stand now they do not have a seventh player who could step in for Xyp9x, who will reportedly be out of the roster for at least the duration of DreamHack Masters Spring.

With Xyp9x on leave, Astralis' roster looks as follows:

Lmao, true. I'm excited to see how it goes but I really don't see them being in the same form they have been for the past three years without gla1ve and Xyp9x. Sure, they are coming back, but it still messes with the dynamic. In the end I hope things work out well for all players involved, but there's no guarantee. It's a massive risk. Xyp9x leaving right now also seems really sudden considering there's no replacement.

i mentioned in other places that xyp9x will probably be back. after es3tag was acquired stewie2k said in a stream that astralis players would be taking time off and that he was jealous because they can just do that without much of a problem. i personally think this is time off for gla1ve and xyp9x, and that the remaining players will be trained up and be placed up for sale to other orgs for a higher price than they contracted them for once gla1ve and xyp9x are ready to compete again or shortly after they rejoin the roster. in essense, these acquisitions let people take a break from cs and commodify two players as investments that they can turn around and sell at a higher price

Also, yes, i do think stewie deserves to stay with liquid. he's the igl now and has experience in that position. they're training him up internally to fill the shoes of nitr0. he's smarter than people give him credit for. even if he's been playing inconsistently, he's still a star player on the team. he's also basically a mini celebrity in na, and that definitely carries weight in their decision to keep him

It would be nice for Liquid to try this 7 man roster thing as well but the problem is it will work VERY well for Astralis because Astralis greatness comes from their system not individual fluke performances. es3tag and Jugi can be elevated to a new level playing in the great Astralis system, so the pains of temporarily replacing a player are far lesser than if nitr0 were to step down and, say, Cooper takes his spot, because Liquid's greatness came from a peak of individual performance. So while replacing a player on Astralis might result in a small drop, replacing a player on Liquid is everything.

I think this is it for Astralis as we know it even if they do come back after the summer as seems to be the plan. Can't really blame them though. And again I see parallels between them and Liquid. I don't think burnout has anything to do with it. I think these are teams that defined and touched greatness and I don't think online CS really scratches that itch. So until LAN comes back I wouldn't even be surprised to see Glaive and Xyp come back and then someone else takes a break. And I don't know at this point if we see LAN again until next year.

I would assume so. I feel like since Astralis took their org public they are thinking about trying to make money off the game instead of focusing on CSGO... but these players can retire and fade away because they got paid...but it's sad.. Proof is in trying to get Lekro - there is no point in that outside of $. There no tangible benefit in a 7 man roster - CS is about team chemistry on the fly in the toughest situations - not about your roster on paper. You can't just slot random people into big games and expect the same results - no matter how good that player is. Plus - Valve can easily make a rule that says you have to play with the same 5 players unless there is an emergency - I mean I thought that rule somewhat existed already where you can't just shuffle players. What's next ? 10 man rosters where a totally different 5 players plays the next match? Playing 2 tournaments at once under the same team name? It makes no sense in the sense of the "sport".

Well these players taking a break was very likely the reason why they were signing other players but the time offs for them coming too soon is sure unexpected. I think Xyp9x break wasn't expected or planned unlike Glaive's , that's were they are struggling to find someone now. Nothing to worry about imo, this is online era for some time and big tournies like Cologne and Major are most probably gonna be suspended rather than played online cause Covid doesn't seem to be disappearing anytime soon. They be back before LANs kick in.

The comments here have great entertainment value. So many tinfoil hats... It will indeed be interesting to see how the next couple of months pans out for Astralis. I hope for the sake of all pro CS players, that TO's and CSPPA will take serious action very soon to avoid further escalation of stress among the pro players. Insane amounts of tournaments/matches, traveling etc. When players in their mid-twenties(ish) stops or pauses their careers because of burnout and stress, something is indeed very very wrong with the scene. Don't get me wrong, i absolutely love to watch the pros play this game, and i can't get enough, but they are also just humans, and the pro CS yearly schedule is simply inhuman. I sincerely wish all the best to Olof, ALEX, gla1ve, xyp9x and to whomever else that might be feeling the pressure mounting. I hope to see you all back in tip top shape as soon as possible!

I remember when they left TSM and started Astralis, i do know they looked at several oldschool old organisations such as Astralis but also EYEBALLERS ect where they could start a new orga with an old known name. Id "given" them the EYE rights for sure if it wasnt stolen from me but anyways ontopic again. They started a "for players by players" organisation, so how come everyone is burning out? did they leave that mentality behind them when to much money was involved? Would be much better to participat ein 50% less tournaments but keep the core intact and stabile for sure
