Astralis bring in Snappi as Xyp9x takes leave
It is currently unclear what will happen to Snappi's prospective move to Mongolian team TIGER, who already have an agreement in place with Heroic to bring in the Danish player together with British AWPer Owen "smooya" Butterfield.
Xyp9x becomes the second Astralis player to take a break from competition, after in-game leader Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander stepped down from the roster two weeks ago due to medical reasons. In a statement, the 'clutch minister', one of the founding members of Astralis, highlighted the importance of a spell away from action "to rest and find the motivation to get back to competing for Astralis."
"Everyone around me has done a great number of things in order to avoid it, and there is nothing that I would rather do than keep on playing without a break," he added.
"But the time has come to take care of my health and therefore I have given in a sick note to Astralis."
Snappi, who has been out of action since the beginning of April, when he was benched by Heroic, will make his first appearance for Astralis in the BLAST Premier Spring Europe Showdown, kicking off Monday. The Danish giants were drawn into Group A alongside ENCE, NiP, sAw and Vitality.
The 29-year-old will reunite with Jakob "JUGi" Hansen, who joined Astralis earlier this month and has been standing in for the team in gla1ve's absence. The pair played together between 2017 and 2019 in Heroic - when the team was owned by RFRSH Entertainment - and also in OpTic.
Astralis currently have:
