DreamHack Masters Spring Europe reaches playoffs
The European division of DreamHack Masters Spring is now down to its final 12 teams following the end of the group stage.
Spirit brought the curtain down on the group stage with a come-from-behind victory against GODSENT to secure the second spot in Group C with six points, with Nikolay "mir" Bityukov topping the scoreboard on all three maps to end the series with a 1.41 rating.
GODSENT, who had lost their previous two matches, knew that a victory would see them leapfrog fnatic in the group, but they were unable to build on a 16-12 win on Train, Spirit's map pick, as their defensive strategy fell apart on Nuke and Inferno, where they picked up a combined two CT rounds.
DreamHack Masters Spring Europe, which has $160,000 on the line, will now enter a week-long break before resuming on June 8 with the first round of the double-elimination playoffs, headlined by a clash between the current No.2 and No.5 in the world, Natus Vincere and G2. In the lower bracket, all eyes will be on the Scandinavian showdown between Astralis, who are currently led by Emil "Magisk" Reif, and Hampus "hampus" Poser' NiP, who avoided elimination with a last-day victory over ENCE.
