FURIA breeze past Liquid to clinch DH Masters Spring NA title

FURIA has come out victorious at DreamHack Masters Spring - North America after sweeping Liquid in the grand final.

Having finished in third place at ESL Pro League Season 11 and becoming runners-up in Road to Rio, the Brazilians have redeemed themselves as they topped off qualification to BLAST Premier Finals with an undefeated run at DreamHack Masters, which saw them go undefeated and drop just three maps across five series en route to their first title since Arctic Invitational in September 2019.

After a narrow encounter in the group stage saw FURIA scrape a win over Liquid, the rematch in the title decider was far from close, as Andrei "arT" Piovezan's team swept the North American squad 3-0 with a default victory and 16-12 and 16-5 scorelines on Mirage and Vertigo.

FURIA clinch their first title of 2020

FURIA were looking to make a statement from the get-go, kicking off the series with a near-impenetrable defense on Mirage as they conceded a single round in the first 11 after coming out on top of forcebuy shenanigans early on. Liquid didn't let that scare them away, though, finding weaknesses in the B bombsite and clawing back to a five-round half in the end.

The North American side continued to close the deficit with a pistol round in the bag until they finally reached even ground at 11-11, but their comeback attempt was thwarted in the end, with arT's key openings helping FURIA secure a 2-0 lead in the series.

Vertigo started off in a just as one-sided fashion as Mirage, with FURIA coming out on top the pistol round and all the clutches on the back of heroics from Yuri "yuurih" Santos and Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato, which awarded the Brazilians a 12-3 half on the offense. A quad-kill from Keith "NAF" Markovic in the second pistol only delayed the inevitable, as the gunrounds were all about FURIA, who rallied to a 16-5 scoreline to celebrate a convincing run to the title.

liquid was once the best overpass team in the world by a country mile they are still insane on it and it’s their best map besides d2 i think furias map pool just counters liquids really hard. permabanning d2 and being a good train team just kinda screws liquid over on all fronts

"was once"...was once. TL picked a Mirage, Furia had 100%....Maybe overpass only delayed the inevitable
2020-06-15 01:18
inferno is a hard 50/50 for either team and liquid is favored as the better nuke team imo just sad to see liquid mess up their veto badly tbh
2020-06-15 01:21
you see this in sport a lot. when there is a team or player that dominates a certain field or position, others adapt to whatever style or methods are successful for them. a great classic example is lebron james/kobe byrant/michael jordan. we saw it with TL grinding to overtake astralis and arguably it could have been TL on that great 1-2 year run astralis had in their place. TL being the top dog its only natural FURIA grinded with them in mind making them a great counter matchup.

FURIA can stay at this TOP 6-10 level with this roster, but I don't think they will go higher. I think they are at their peak now. It's excatly the same for Liquid.

Didn’t Liquid beat almost everyone in 2019 LAN with same roster? I will bet that this Furia team would get ass kicked in a LAN match against every top tier teams, including Liquid

Since when you watch cs? they were a top 5 team in 2019, and almost won one tier 1 event, and went 3rd/4th in others t1 events, beating astralis, g2, ence, vitality (they beat them a lot on bo3's lan), north, etc.

Onliners
2020-06-15 00:29
Cool, now let's look at their massive run of achievements... oh wait...

I'm just proving you they are not onliners, I never said anything about achievements... be a good loser.
2020-06-15 01:10
But they are onliners, they can't achieve anything on LAN. Beating a team in a group stage as a fluke or every once in awhile is something any tier 2 team can do, but winning events can be done by any tier 3/4 team if it's completely online. FURIA are onliners,

You are not going to bait me further.
2020-06-15 01:14
It's not a bait, you're just wrong. Good for furia to win this but they are still onliners till they can prove themselves at even one LAN.
2020-06-15 01:14
They went to face it finals winning against almost all of the top teams at the time, lol.
2020-06-15 01:21
So they had one fluke event that they still ended up losing, still doesn't make them a LAN team tho.
2020-06-15 01:22
What does it make? Just for curiosity. Astralis took almost 5 years to find consistency for winning tournaments, following this crooked logic, they were a lan team only in 2018, lol.
2020-06-15 01:26
Well for starters, you are comparing Furia to pre-2018 Astralis which is a terrible comparison. Astralis since basically the beginning of CSGO has been a consistent playoffs team while FURIA even recently has gone out in GROUPS in very low-tier events recently. For example, they went out in groups at Dreamhack Open Winter 2019, an event that had exactly 0 tier 1 teams except unless you consider FURIA tier 1 at the time. They also placed second to last at cs_summit 5, an event that had mouz and G2, but they also placed lower than Virtus.premier. They also went out in groups at ESL Cologne 2019. Their only notable achievement at all for that matter other than those random LAN victories vs some good teams was 3rd at Starladder, but you need much more than that for people to not consider you onliners when you suddenly start consistently winning tournaments online. Also being called "onliner" isn't a bad thing, it means a team is good online, but excluseively online while not showing as much on LAN. Who knows? maybe I am completely wrong and as soon as COVID ends FURIA are nuts, but for now they have nothing else really to show for it
2020-06-15 01:46
In the end, you didn't talked about what it makes a lan team, consistent playoff runs, i guess. They are a young team, mate. When they left Brazil, they had almost no lan tournament under their belts, it's way different if you compare it to mibr core, that had played tons of lan tournaments in Brazil before going abroad. Also, you are considering their time with AbleJ when they really lacked consistency. Besides, they played cs_summit without Hen1, who is probably their most important player nowadays, so you can't consider this a good result. But yeah, they lacked results in 2019, but you can't say they can't play at lan, lol. They are slowing finding their groove, and since 2020 began, they were an ascending team and at least they are dominating NA during online times. Let's see when things return to normal.
2020-06-15 02:33
I didn't say they can't play on LAN, I said they're onliners which is true because they are outperforming their LAN stats by a lot when playing online.

#154, #156, #158, #164, #173 the only thing brutal is how much flair, flag and username check out to call a few random LAN victories without any achievements a "brutal" comeback.

Well done FURIA! The best americas team on this moment. With the currently Astralis situation I think FURIA have the chance do reach at the #1, they are at same level as FAZE, G2, VITALITY, NAVI.

Can't wait for all of these online "stars" to just fall down on their necks when the LANs come back. BIG is the biggest example of onliners, being absolutely irrelevant on LAN.
