Vitality send G2 to lower bracket in BLAST Premier Europe Finals

A comfortable win on Inferno (16-5) and a big comeback on Mirage (22-20) saw Vitality take down G2 in the opening match of BLAST Premier Spring 2020 Europe Finals, sending them to the lower bracket.

Not even 24-hours after G2's upset loss to BIG in the grand final of DreamHack Masters Spring Europe, the French-Serbian side kicked off their BLAST Premier Spring Finals campaign against rivals Vitality. G2's attempt to turn things around fell flat, though, as they were never in contention on the opening map, Inferno, reminiscent of Sunday's grand final. Unsurprisingly, Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut shone as the best player on the server, providing crucial openings as well as clutches throughout the series.

G2 started Inferno on the back foot, unable to establish themselves on the CT side of Vitality's map pick. Dan "apEX" Madesclaire's squad went up 6-2 before Kenny "kennyS" Schrub's 1v2 clutch secured G2 the force-buy victory, getting to 6-4. However, Vitality was in control again shortly, hitting sites as a pack and finding continued success.

The first half ended 11-4 in favor of the fully-French roster, and any chances of a comeback were denied by Kévin "misutaaa" Rabier who stopped the clutch attempt in the pistol and secured three with the Deagle to respond to G2's force buy. The conclusion was reached soon, 16-5, with entry duel dominance by ZywOo (6-0) and Cédric "RpK" Guipouy (5-0) making the map very one-sided.

ZywOo had another stellar game, posting a 1.70 rating

It seemed like Mirage was going to follow a similar pattern to Inferno, as G2 looked deflated early on, sitting 7-3 behind despite winning the Terrorist pistol. kennyS was the one keeping them in the game, leading the fragging for the French-Serbian mixture as they mounted a comeback which started with a successful B fake and built into a five-round streak, making it 8-7.

Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač came alive in the second half as G2 take control on the defence, limiting Vitality to just one round before reaching map point, 15-8. Things seemed wrapped up for G2, but round after round, they struggled to hold off the pushes toward B or pull off subsequent retakes, despite often having the man advantage. At 15-14, Vitality managed to recover again, bouncing back from a 3v5 thanks to misutaaa and ZywOo's clutch play that forced overtime. Audric "JaCkz" Jug's ace started off the added rounds positively for G2, but after two sets of overtime, it was Vitality to close things out, 22-20.

Imagine someone new to CSGO watching G2's performance yesterday and today. What will they think? Is it your number 1 team who chokes 2-0 map lead in Bo5 and gets reversed sweep? Is it your number 1 team who chokes on 15-8 score in ct side?

They are the only team to make it to 6 finals over the last 7 events they have attended, them choking is unfortunate and its whats keeping them from being objectively with out a question the number 1 team, but its not like the ranking isnt deserved.

They need to calm their game down. Kenny was so damn frustrated at the end of Mirage that he was making a lot of stupid decisions. JaCkz really stepped up and I can't help thinking that they would have closed it out had Kenny been a little more calm and smart about it.

This is a miracle, a CS:GO game debate in HLTV with guys with normal nicknames (instead of "THIS_TEAM_NEVER_WON_AGAINST_THIS_TEAM nicknames), valid arguments about the game and no one insulting the players or even the users from this website. I'm genuinely impressed.

Number 1 in hltv rankings only means that team's results for certain period of time were better than results of other teams. Number 1 in hltv rankings doesn't mean that the team is the strongest right now (in terms of absolute strength).

even then I think G2 might be the strongest team in terms of consistency. No team matches what theyve been doing, it's just the issue of they aren't closing out these events. If they won even just 1 event I feel like people would actually consider them a true top 1.

What achievements are you talking about? From 2019 until now G2 has won liquipedia.net/counterstrike/Eden_Esport.. and liquipedia.net/counterstrike/Good_Game_L.. both with weak teams. Lets not forget they lost to mouz with a trash standin and a coach in the final of cs_summit, YIKES. And yesterday lost 2-3 against BIG while up 2-0. Vitality at least won epicenter 2019, ECS, summit 4.

They are not even close to being better than G2. It's true. And when will you realise that the tournaments played with other roster doesn't matter now?
2020-06-15 23:45

So first you mention achievements, when proven wrong you ignore it. Then suddenly its a time limit, now its a roster limit. Like 60% of a roster isnt enough. summit choke, BIG choke, astralis + navi stomps in the final was with the current G2 roster. You dont care about achievements, you dont care about HLTV ranking (rightly so) and you dont care that the results, G2 vs vitality played 3x in history vitality won twice. You just think G2 is better because you say so, amazing, nice try brain cell killer, dont reply, i wont read it.
