Giants close in on deal for CPH Flames roster

Spanish organisation Giants is locked in talks with Copenhagen Flames about acquiring the Danish team, HLTV.org has learned.

Talks have already begun between the two organisations, with Giants interested in placing the team under the banner of x6tence — an organisation they acquired at the start of the month — to fill the void that was created by the departure of the Argentinian roster headlined by Nicolas "NikoM" Miozzi.

Copenhagen Flames recently decided to entertain offers for the team, according to a report from DBLTAP. The Danish squad broke into the top 30 in the world rankings in February and have managed to stay afloat despite losing three players, Asger "AcilioN" Larsen (MAD Lions), René "TeSeS" Madsen (Heroic) and Asger "Farlig" Jensen (GODSENT).

The Danish team could be playing for x6tence soon

x6tence has previous ties to the Nordic region, having fielded a Swedish team between 2018 and 2019, called x6tence Galaxy. The squad, which included current NiP duo Tim "nawwk" Jonasson and Nicolas "Plopski" Gonzalez Zamora, most notably reached the semi-finals at DreamHack Open Winter before the organisation pulled the plug on the project due to internal problems.

Copenhagen Flames, who are currently ranked 39th in the world, will compete in the upcoming Regional Major Ranking (RMR) tournament — cs_summit 6 — , which will kick off next week. The team lost 20 percent of the 700 RMR points that they won in ESL One: Road to Rio following the departure of Farlig.

The Danish team have the following roster:

Denmark Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen
Denmark Magnus "Nodios" Olsen
Denmark Ismail "refrezh" Ali
Denmark Jonas "Queenix" Dideriksen
Denmark Hector "HECTOz" Jensen

Norway Morten "zEVES" Vollan (coach)

Not really. G2 and Mad Lions are seen as euro org with Spanish founders. But It seems like Movistar and Giants to a lesser degree are seen as the true Spanish Orgs (Since they have more national talent across their games),

Everyone above 12 years old that has been in the gaming scene knows G2 was made by Ocelot after he left SK about 7 or 8 years ago. G2 is 100% a spanish org created by a spanish player. If he sold part of the company after thats irrelevant

Yeah, I know the history class, so you can keep that one to yourself. I'm just stating the perception around those orgs (Especially in Spain). Giants and then Riders have the biggest fanbase in Spain. And as I said, despite G2 and Mad Lions being more successful orgs, they're not seen as spanish orgs since they've always have far more international teams than nationals (reason why they're more successful). So yeah they we're founded by Spanish owners (G2 had a German founder too), but people don't take them as Spanish. I mean, G2 isn't even based in Spain. I'm pretty sure G2 has more fans in France or Germany than Spain.

Not really. After acquiring the x6tence brand Giants' CEO said on a twitch streaming that they're allowed to have 2 teams under the same brand untill 2021, but after that they have to solve this potential conflict of interests and there plan was to not have any CS:GO team under the GIANTS org, and just one team under the x6tence tag. I'm pretty sure the portuguese roster is set to leave in a couple months and they'll focus on the x6tence roster which seems to be the CPH Flames guys.
2020-06-17 01:25
Ownership conflicts. You had all this YEAH! drama from a couple weeks ago. This just means that GIANTS will not be able to play the same tourneys as x6. And since x6 is the better roster, guess it means the end of T1 CS for fox as long as he is under the Giants org. And to think he refused a T2 roster offer to prove loyalty to Giants CEO. FeelsBadMan

I get that, nothing to say if it was "RIP Giants" xD Giants are a big brand for sure. Mad Lions, Heretics and now X6tence are not Spanish line-ups or even Iberian. However, Movistar Riders are better than ever before and even sAw are top50. Iberian CS is good right now imo and since we don't have quality to have 5 T1/T2 teams brands need to move on. But saying RIP Portuguese cs or Iberian cs or Spanish cs because of that right now, that's nonsense.
2020-06-17 16:50
6 replies
I agree that it is not RIP Iberian CS. G2, Mad Lions, Heretics, x6tence you can't really call Iberian CS, like you can't call Sharks PT CS or fnatic UK CS. But sure, Riders are probably a t2 roster right now and sAw are closing in on that t3 to t2 difference I believe. Although it is in fact RIP PT Giants. That roster will either have to find a new home or disband. My personal wish was that fox took that crazy young dude pr under his wing and went international. I don't know, but something with the likes of fox, pr, Lucas1, Meyern and maybe NikoM. Would be something cool to see.

fox himself isn't that good of a english speaker. But at least the roster I made would be fine talking a mix of portuguese and spanish, which would probably work for them. Anyways, I'm sure that if fox goes INT again, would be with his pal Rubino

"One usual problem with Portuguese youngsters is that they lack second languages" because they're lazy kids who pay/paid no attention at school. English isn't even an hard language to learn (look at fox, that had no clue about it, and all the doubts when he made it into an international roster, and he could work it out). I can feel sympathy for someone that had the life troubles as he (fox) had, losing his father and all that shit. But can't really feel sympathy for kids that don't learn a 2nd language to be "edgy".

I don't like this. If Giants acquire this line up under the x6 Logo, Giants's lineup (fox, pr,noppej, ...) will not be able to play in competitions where "x6tence" play. So Vodafone Giants will never play a good international tourmament again. That sucks.
2020-06-17 00:16

Even if Giants aren't really a contender for playing in international tournaments this move is really sketch by Giants. Owning 2 teams is just weird, they are forced to play in different levels (which they are right now), but it's not impossible for these 2 lineups to play in the same tournament by any means...

I think its only conflict of interest if the two teams play in the same league. For example, YeaH and MIBR were in the same tournament. Meanwhile Na'Vi and Na'Vi Junior play in entirely different leagues. I dont think Na'Vi Junior even play any ESEA leagues at all, so no chance for them to join Na'Vi in pro league. Windigo had a Bulgarian main roster but a Ukrainian Academy roster.

x6 is historical in CSGO. Btw in 2021 it will be only 1 organisation on CSGO and it will be in x6tence.

Just disband Giants Portuguesse roster cuz it's trash, and don't buy Copenhagen Flames cuz it's just as trash as the actual Giants lineup.

Fan of the org and not the players i assume? Just curious. But it makes sense, CPH Flames rise to the top of danish esport have been exciting and their owners are really cool.

I like teams and orgs with young potential players rather than any well established teams. I hope flames acquire a new young decent roster. The key word is potential..

Dumb move to sign a team because they'll be playing x tournament instead of their actual potential. Copenaghen ain't going through their group with NiP and Ence. And they won't be at any other major tournament anytime soon.
