Vitality edge out FaZe; advance to BLAST Premier Spring Europe grand final
The two teams met in BLAST Premier Spring Finals - Europe just three days ago, when FaZe secured a confident 2-0 victory to send Vitality to the lower bracket. After suffering an upset-loss to Complexity in the upper bracket final, Nikola "NiKo" Kovač's men weren't able to repeat their victory over the French squad and ended the tournament in third place - another "close, but no cigar" result for FaZe who finished third in their last two events - ESL One: Road to Rio and DreamHack Masters Spring.
The tightly-contested series could've gone either way, but Richard "shox" Papillon's ninja defuse in overtime on Nuke and some good calling at the end of Dust2 saw Vitality edge out the game with the smallest of margins. The grand final between Complexity and Vitality will take place at 20:30 .
NiKo was off to a great start on Nuke, sitting on 15 kills after five rounds played as FaZe took a 4-1 CT side lead. Deagles netted Vitality their second, a surprisingly clean round (5-2), after which the Frenchmen started finding holes on the A site defense. Outside wraps and direct hits worked out, and with the last four rounds of the half going their way, Vitality got to the edge of equalizing, 8-7.
Dan "apEX" Madesclaire and Kévin "misutaaa" Rabier secured three and two frags respectively on the CT pistol, pushing Vitality into the lead, and with Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut's 1v2 clutch, they got on the edge of victory, 14-9. At that point, FaZe had won just one of the last 12 rounds, but a fast A hit worked out for them and they started to recover. Helvijs "broky" Saukants and Marcelo "coldzera" David woke up, aiding their side to come back to 15-15, forcing overtime. It seemed like they were going to carry the momentum into the added rounds and steal away Vitality's map pick, but shox's ninja defuse in a 2v4 took the wind out of FaZe's sails and saw the Frenchmen claim Nuke, 19-15.
The French squad showed up strong as CT on Dust2, picking up a 3-0 lead post-pistol before their A defense fell apart against a Deagle Cat push. The middle portion of the half went back-and-forth (5-3), but ultimately Vitality took control as their disruptive play saw FaZe struggle to put rounds on the board. Cédric "RpK" Guipouy was a rock for his team, posting 15 frags on the defense as they concluded the half 10-5 ahead.
Finding the last two round of the first half and first two of the second gave FaZe a fighting chance on Dust2 (10-7), while broky's 1v1 clutch in round 19 was pivotal for the European team to build momentum. FaZe reached a 14-11 lead, chaining seven in a row, before Vitality broke through with a B split. apEX's men seemingly figured out how to counter the European side at the end of the map and chained three convincing rounds together (14-14), broke FaZe's money, and ultimately closed out the map, 16-14, with a 2v2 on B.
