EG edge out FURIA; Cloud9 take down Gen.G in cs_summit 6 North America
Evil Geniuses sent FURIA down to the Group A elimination match against MIBR with a 2-1 victory, while Cloud9 took down Gen.G in a two-map series on the second day of cs_summit 6 North America.
In the second match of the group of death, Evil Geniuses extended their unbeaten record over FURIA to 7-0, with six of those match-ups being in series play. This time around, the Brazilian roster managed to secure a map win — their third out of sixteen against Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz's side — on Nuke, but were unable to overcome strong showings from Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov and Ethan "Ethan" Arnold on Vertigo and Inferno as EG edged out the series. In Group B, Cloud9 picked up a pair of 16-12 victories on Vertigo and Inferno over Gen.G, setting up a match against 100 Thieves for a spot in the playoffs.
EG were swift in kicking off their attacking effort on Nuke, converting a pistol round victory into a 3-0 lead before FURIA got on the board. The AWP and trademark unrelenting aggression of Andrei "arT" Piovezan was key in FURIA finding five in reply, but it was stanislaw's side that ruled for much of the remainder of the half as they found entry into bombsites to claim a 9-6 lead at the break.
FURIA took firm control as the second half got underway, exploiting Tarik "tarik" Celik's ramp rotations and repeatedly vent diving to win nine of the first ten rounds, attaining match point in fast fashion. Back-to-back multi-kills from stanislaw helped EG in an effort to fight for overtime, but doubles from Henrique "HEN1" Teles and arT in round 30 saw FURIA edge out the victory in regulation to move the series on to their own map pick of Vertigo.

A strong start on Vertigo saw the Brazilian side initially in the lead, but a pair of quad kills from the AWP of CeRq and additional multi-frag rounds allowed Evil Geniuses to close the gap and tie the match at 4-4. Entry kills from arT aided FURIA in doubling their rounds in the half, but Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte, Ethan, and CeRq combined to keep their side within one round as the sides swapped over.
Three frags from stanislaw put momentum in EG's favour as they kicked off their T side, with the team replying to FURIA's first gun round win with two of their own for an 11-9 scoreline. arT and company fought to equalize but quickly found themselves pushed back as the Evil Bulgarian continued to run rampant, with Ethan stepping up alongside him to help EG close out the map 16-13.
CeRq and Ethan kept EG in control on the CT side of Inferno as they found doubles in the pistol round, using the momentum to run up a 5-1 lead. Three frags from Yuri "yuurih" Santos gave FURIA an opening, which they used to put four rounds on the board, but the AWP of CeRq continued to find entry picks as the rest of the EG riflers cleaned up in the late round to grant their side another 9-6 lead at halftime.
yuurih and Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato fought to grant FURIA a pistol round victory, with ensuing force-buy and anti-eco conversions leaving the two teams at a tie game. Once rifles were in the hands of EG however, CeRq and Ethan continued to demolish the Brazilian bombsite barriers to swiftly put their side upon match point, with FURIA forestalling their own execution for a handful of rounds before EG closed out the series with another 16-13 map win.

Gen.G kicked off their pick of Vertigo with three rounds on the T side, but emphasis on B site attacks early on did not pay off as Cloud9 clawed back with five of their own to take the lead. Damian "daps" Steele's men found their footing as they won four in a row to get back in contention, but it was still Johnny "JT" Theodosiou's side who edged out a one round lead by the break.
A pistol win for Cloud9 was soured as the Deagles of Gen.G answered back, allowing the DreamHack Anaheim champions to take three for a 10-9 lead. However, that edge was quickly lost as multi-kill rounds from Ricky "floppy" Kemery and Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek put Cloud9 back in control, with the team only conceding two additional rounds en route to a 16-12 finish.

Gen.G continued to look lacklustre on Cloud9's pick of Inferno as JT's side remained a tight-knit group on the attack, trading out effectively as they broke through the Gen.G defenses repeatedly to lead 10-5 at halftime. The teams traded blows at the onset of the second half, but it was Gen.G who came out ahead as they pieced together a string of five rounds to tie the match at 12-12. Three frags from floppy finally forced Gen.G to concede a round, and from there Cloud9 prevailed in a number of post-plant situations and denied Timothy "autimatic" Ta a 1vs5 ace clutch attempt to take the map 16-12.
