tarik stars as EG beat Liquid to seal cs_summit 6 playoff berth
Evil Geniuses secured the first spot in the cs_summit 6 playoffs following a convincing victory against fellow North American side Liquid. After edging past FURIA in the opening round, the BLAST Premier champions outclassed their opponents in a quick series, ending the one-sided affair in style with a dominant showing on Inferno, where Tarik "tarik" Celik had a year-high 2.04 rating.
Liquid will be hoping for a miracle when they take on FURIA in Sunday's group decider match. They are yet to beat the Brazilians in 2020 after six series and could be in for a tough night, even though they still look to be a sure bet for the Major as they are leading the RMR ranking in the region.
EG began the series on a winning note as they picked up the opening pistol on Nuke, but their lead was quickly wiped out: Liquid responded in the following round and took control of the contest, with the scoreline blooming to a 7-3 lead. Evil Geniuses came fighting back in the final stages of the half to bring the deficit to a solitary round, though they were certainly still kicking themselves at the break for losing a crucial round midway through the half against Tec-9s.
Now playing on the T side, EG picked up where they left off in the first half as they went on a 5-0 run, with Liquid responding in kind by winning four in a row to restore parity. Momentum appeared to be with Jake "Stewie2K" Yip's side, but EG stuck to their task and put the game to rest in the 29th round after Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz had won a decisive 1v1 in the previous round to leave Liquid with no money in the bank.
Evil Geniuses pressured hard from the onset on Inferno and produced a commanding 9-3 lead after preventing Liquid from building up an economy or stringing rounds together. A surprising victory in a clean eco round put Stewie2K's charges back in the game, but their respite was only momentary as Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte put EG once again in control with a stunning quad-kill, setting his team up for a 10-5 lead.
More misery was to come for Liquid, who were shut down by tarik and Brehze in the following pistol while attempting to enter the B site. The 24-year-old, who had ended the first half with 18 frags, continued his domination in a one-sided half with several multi-kills to power his team to an easy victory.
