NAVI, Astralis, Liquid among teams to attend ESL One Cologne
There are now just six spots left at the showpiece event, which will be decided next week.
ESL has revealed the names of the first 18 teams that will attend this year's ESL One Cologne event, which will run from August 21-30. The tournament organiser has also set a cut-off date of July 6 to determine the last six teams based on its ESL Pro Tour world ranking.
Current world No.1 Natus Vincere is among the eight teams already confirmed for the main tournament, in which they will be joined by the top eight sides coming from the Play-In stage. This will phase will act as a qualifier and will feature 14 teams determined by the ESL Pro Tour rankings plus the winners of the ESL European Championship and of ESL Meisterschaft Spring, Heretics and Sprout respectively.
ESL One Cologne will be held as a broadcast tournament without a live audience. HLTV.org reported two weeks ago that ESL remained hopeful that it would be able to host the tournament in its studio in Cologne, though a final decision will depend on the evolution of the global health crisis and on the travel restrictions that European Union authorities will impose in the coming weeks.
The German tournament, which will have $1 million on offer, was initially scheduled for July 6-12 with playoffs at the Lanxess-Arena. On May 5, it was officially postponed after German authorities had decided to suspend all large events in the country at least until the end of August in an effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
