Heroic edge out fnatic in cs_summit 6
The Danes will move on to the lower bracket final after a hard-fought win in an all-Nordic clash.
Heroic booked the first spot in the lower bracket final of cs_summit 6 following a 2-1 victory over fnatic. The Danish team, fresh off a convincing win against North in the first lower bracket round, almost allowed victory to slip through their fingers after wasting four match points on Nuke, but they remained resolute and came back from 5-10 down on Inferno to book a spot in the next stage, setting up a clash against the winner of the series between OG and GODSENT.
Casper "cadiaN" Møller kicked things off on Train with a fast trio of kills on the inner site to put Heroic ahead from the get-go. The Danish team came out the livelier of the two sides as they strolled to a 4-0 lead, with fnatic then responding after penetrating the outer defense with brute force. However, the Swedes' attack remained ineffective as they continued to lack solutions to break through the Heroic defense. cadiaN and Martin "stavn" Lund combined for 32 kills as Heroic took an 11-4 lead, with fnatic only managing to string rounds together in the dying stages of the half.
The Swedish team looked reinvigorated after switching to the CT side, winning six rounds right off the bat to bring the deficit to a solitary round. It was only then that Heroic finally gained a foothold in the half, with the Danish team putting a few rounds together to hit map point at 15-10. They left it late to secure victory, however, only locking down the map in the 29th round as fnatic tried their hardest to force overtime.
Nuke began with fnatic racing to a 3-0 lead on the offense, but as expected Heroic took control of the game once they had money in the bank. The Swedish team struggled to impose themselves for the rest of the half, but the four gun rounds that they mustered - one of which following a sensational 1v3 Galil clutch by Maikil "Golden" Selim - gave them plenty of breathing room as they prepared to switch to the defense.
Things looked bright for fnatic when they took the pistol round, leveling the score at 8-8, but then disaster struck as Heroic responded on a force-buy and took control of the game, with the scoreline blooming to a 14-9 lead for the Danes. fnatic tightened up, however, and managed to survive four series points to take the game to overtime - where they had a flawless T side off the back of a 1v2 clutch by Golden, taking advantage of the Danes' unsettled nerves.
fnatic carried that momentum into the final map, Inferno, where they jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The game entered a period where it hung on a knife's edge as neither side managed to get a grip on proceedings, with five rounds separating the two sides at the break. Heroic entered the second half with renewed impetus and won ten rounds without response to hit match point once again. fnatic still attempted a response, but there would be no repeat of the Nuke heartbreak as cadiaN's charges secured the map in the 29th round.
