Gen.G take down Liquid; to face Evil Geniuses in cs_summit 6 grand final
One of the last top-level matches ahead of the summer player break was an exciting back-and-forth between Gen.G and Liquid, with the latter team picking up the opening map victory before Damian "daps" Steele and co. recovered to earn a 2-1 victory. Gen.G will be playing for the cs_summit 6 title tomorrow against Evil Geniuses in a BO5 grand final which they start with a one map disadvantage, hoping to repeat their ESL One: Road to Rio victory and cement their place at the Major.
Liquid's 4-0 start on the T side of Nuke was countered by Timothy "autimatic" Ta AWP quad kill, which gave Gen.G their first. After that, daps and Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand were crucial in rounds to help their team establish, 6-5. BnTeT had a few more multikill round which were converted in his team's favor, however, with some tight rifle-work from Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski, Liquid regained the lead before first half ended, 8-7.
autimatic bunny hopped into Ramp and got two entries on the pistol to set up his team for a good T side and Gen.G were up 11-8 shortly. Then the game started going back-and-forth, with Liquid coming up as the winner's thanks to good economy management, and Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken 3K Main hold turning the tides od the match. Liquid cleaned up the ecos and after Jake "Stewie2K" Yip's triple, closed out Nuke 16-13.
Another 4-0 start from Liquid, now on Mirage, fell flat as daps pulled off a 1v2 clutch to rally his troops. The score was 6-4 before Liquid won a low-buy, flanking Gen.G's A execute, which started a five-round streak that gave Nick "nitr0" Cannella's men nine before the swap.
nitr0 was the main man in the pistol that followed, claiming three kills in the 2v3 on B, but Liquid's inability to convert the 3-0 meant that the game was a brawl right from the start of the second half. Eventually, Gen.G established themselves on the defense, taking the lead after a 3v3 B retake (12-11), with BnTeT standing out in the late-round scenarios. Liquid had their chances in the final stretch, but losing to a daps bomb defuse in a 1v2 and an anti-eco in round 29 resulted in Gen.G taking map, 16-13.
After two subdued maps, Sam "s0m" Oh posted 12 frags in the first four rounds of Vertigo as his team took a 4-0 lead, only for Liquid to recover with a streak of their own, edging ahead after a Twistzz 1v2 clutch (5-4). That advantage was short-lived, as Gen.G found success with retakes to set themselves up for a 9-6 half.
Liquid took the second half pistol, but Gen.G's force buy win that followed set them up perfectly to tie up Vertigo on the Terrorist side, with the economy working in their favor. At 14-7, Kenneth "koosta" Suen found a double entry and Gen.G went on to match point, which they converted on to secure a place in the grand final against Evil Geniuses.
