ESL pays tribute on 10-year anniversary of cyx's death
The tournament organiser honored one of Germany's most accomplished Counter-Strike players, who lost his life ten years ago today.
ESL released on Tuesday a tribute video to Antonio "cyx" Daniloski, who lost his life in a car accident on July 28, 2010. The tournament organiser also set up a campaign on GoFundMe.com to raise money to help his mother to maintain the grave and visit it on a regular basis.
cyx was involved in a car crash while returning home from Frankfurt Airport after missing his flight to Shanghai, where he was going to compete at the IEM5 Global Challenge with his team, mousesports. During his three-year tenure with the famed German organisation, he helped the team to win several international titles - most notably the IEM II World Championship, the IEM III Global Challenge Dubai and the IEM IV European Championship Finals -, playing his final tournament at GameGune 2010, in Bilbao, Spain.
In the tribute video, which includes old footage of the mousesports team, former teammate Fatih "gob b" Dayik talks about how cyx was brought into the squad and discusses his legacy. Last year, the former BIG captain also spoke to HLTV.org about the impact that cyx had on German Counter-Strike and how he struggled to cope with the loss of his friend, who would have been 30 today.
