DreamHack Open Summer Europe and North America groups revealed

The DreamHack Open Summer groups for the European and North American regions have been revealed by the Swedish tournament organizer.

DreamHack Open Summer Europe and North America will take place online on August 8-16, with a combined prize pool of $180,000 split evenly among both regions.

Three teams that were initially on the roster In North America have dropped out, Evil Geniuses, Gen.G and 100 Thieves, and have been replaced by Yeah, TeamOne and Chaos.

BIG have been placed in Group A with Heroic, Mad Lions and Endpoint

Group A in Europe is headlined by the current world ranking leaders, BIG, who are joined by two Danish teams, Heroic and MAD Lions, with one of the two sides that made it through the qualifiers, Endpoint, rounding it out.

Group B will also feature two teams hailing from the same country, Spirit and forZe, who will be fighting with Complexity and the other squad that made it through the closed qualifier, OG.

The DreamHack Open Summer Europe groups are:

Group A in North America will feature Liquid, who will play their first tournament since Nick "nitr0" Cannella's departure, and will field Michael "Grim" Wince, according to a statement given to Rush B by the North American organization. Triumph, where Grim made a name for himself, will also be a contender in the group along with Ze Pug Godz and the last-minute add-ons, Chaos.

Group B on the other hand is majority-Brazilian, with representation from three teams consisting of FURIA, TeamOne and Yeah. The group is rounded out by Cloud9, who are currently sitting one spot outside of the top 20 in the world ranking.

Whoever randomized these groups did a terrible job. For EU, how do you let both Danish teams be in the same group and both Russian + EU Mix teams be in another group? I think that it should have been something like this: Group A: BIG, Heroic, Complexity, Spirit Group B: MAD Lions, Endpoint, OG, forZe For NA, most of the NA teams are in 1 group while the odd NA team is with the 3 Brazilian teams. It could've been something like this: Group A: Liquid, Triumph, Ze Pug Godz, Yeah Group B: Chaos, Cloud9, FURIA, Team One The groups for both regions definitely could have been more diverse, but that's just my opinion.

100% Agree, this is a joke, not first time this is happening NA teams eliminates NA teams on the group stage, same to the brazilian teams...

I understand that situations like this can and do occur, but if/when they do, I would imagine that the event organizers would take notice and diversify the groups to provide more entertainment value and give teams from every region a chance to showcase their potential and talent.
