Grim shines in debut as Liquid defeat Ze Pug Godz

Liquid won their opening DreamHack Open Summer match against Ze Pug Godz, 16-5 on Vertigo and 16-10 on Inferno, with newcomer Michael "Grim" Wince showing a strong first performance.

Liquid kicked off their season with their DreamHack Open Summer 2020 North America opening match against Ze Pug Godz. The series, which Liquid won 2-0, was also the first with Grim on the roster, who came on after Nick "nitr0" Cannella stepped down during the player break. The 19-year-old ended the series on top of the scoreboard with a 1.72 rating and 108.6 ADR across the two maps played.

Despite losing the pistol round Ze Pug Godz were able to win the eco and take the lead the following round on the defending side of Vertigo, their map pick, but quickly fell behind as Liquid hit their stride on the attacking side with a monster performance by Grim. Ze Pug Godz won back-to-back rounds midway through the half, but were overwhelmed, 4-11. After six rounds on the CT side, which ended with Liquid winning 16-5, the newcomer to the team, Grim, had accrued a staggering 2.02 rating (26-10) with 121.9 ADR.

Grim finished the series with a 1.72 rating and 108.6 ADR

Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken kicked Inferno off with an ace in the attacking side pistol round, amassing 15 frags after seven rounds, all of which Liquid won. Despite the gap Ze Pug Godz didn’t let up, winning three rounds in a row, but were then pummeled by Grim who got an ace on the eco round, including a 1vs3 afterplant clutch. Ze Pug Godz picked right back up, however, clawing back to a 7-8 half.

ZPG then took the lead after the second pistol round, but were back on the defensive as Liquid took control once they stabilized their economy. Grim then got eight frags in two rounds to make it 14-10, easing the way for Liquid to close out the series 2-0.

fun fact it has the same meaning in english

Yes but ugly is used a lot more grim has a more rare usage in english edit: also grim is used more as something that is horrifying and gloomy, rather than ugly thefreedictionary.com/grim
2020-08-08 22:46
Usage is often more like "ZPG faced grim prospects against the debut of Liquid under Grim"

Twistzz looking like the NA ScreaM again, and he's feeling good Stewie looking better than most dedicated AWPers, though I will give him the disservice of saying he seems to roll off momentary confidence which is a greater problem when you're IGL. Go play some poker or chess yung Stew ELIGE is the workhorse of Liquid, expected NAF-FLY never quit being a top 20 in the world Grim looking so, so goddamn good Christine is a treasure btw

I'd like to say something like "wow, impressive!", but it's not really possible to make anything of this. Considering ZPG were new anyway and now they've just had a change, not to mention the fact they aren't a tier 1 team, I think this result would've been about the worst Liquid would've accepted.

Not a big deal vs mix, but it once again shows how cutting a weak player is essential. Top teams cannot afford these "but he is IGL" or "but he is support" players. That's how meta shifted. Few other teams should think about doing changes aswell (mouz *cough* *cough*) ... there are quite a few interesting free agents and/or benched players so i look towards that. Faze (and Virtus.pro) is just first to act and i am glad, it needs to be done.
2020-08-09 09:08
He looked good, is he IGL for liquid right now? or are they actually not running an IGL? I was IGL for my team back in the day, but for some maps we went over EVERY possible scenario and basically everyone on the team was IGL based off the info we collected and what we individually saw. We started with our Defaults based on speed of play, so we had a Default for playing fast, playing slow and getting picks, if we thought they were gonna do something different or agressive. Then on each one of those "Planned Speeds", We had like 3 defaults depending on spawns if we were "Planning on Playing Fast CS that round" , and then we had stages that those defaults automatically shifted into and basically our and their utility was a contributing factor to the direction each default would shift into. Especially how much utility we could bait from the opposing team mattered so much in 1.6 .For De_Clan1_mill it was down so good we basically didn't even have to communicate much. One thing I noticed that helped us so much, was having a positive feeling even when losing rounds, not being scared to tell them team, you are not feeling the flow in your position vs a specific team, and immediately we would be able to change up on the fly. Originally our team had strats with names we could call but those all relied on the CT team not counter stratting, but later on we learned to use defaults, counter-strats of our own, but we still remembered the names of those strats and could execute them on the fly and it honestly would just happen naturally no matter who was alive. That was some of the most fun I ever had. 2004 Counter Strike Cal-IM to Cal-m. Two matches per week. The growth that took place from the Start of Cal-im til the end of the next season in Cal-m was amazing and I still chase that feeling today. Being able to wall bang with the volume off was how we described getting into that zone. At that point we were ALL IGL, even though I was the IGL. In CS 1.6 you could beat some teams by not using utility to get into the site but using utility to keep them from defusing, the better and more flow we got, the LESS the actual planned strategy mattered, but the planned strategies were KEY to being able to get to that lvl. It's hard to describe. I know one of the major things that helped our team was a major rule where we would NOT be allowed to ask for a gun on a Mic. If you needed a Gun you typed in team chat "2", and the first person to type "3" would buy the gun. If you typed 1 early in a round it meant you had to save and u think the team can't afford to buy you a gun. Everything just flowed out of those numbers eventually, I know it sounds weird but it was a simple way to be able to convey info without speaking on the mic, that way we could talk 100% on the mic about how each player was doing. We woudn't be afraid to say, hey I am having trouble with this guy at long, "he is out smarting me by doing this", and we could avoid / switch up based on the fact we stopped being scared to say "Hey I am having trouble", I learned that was a major reason teams were losing, being afraid to say "Hey, I am not feeling this, or this guy is smart af and I need help to counter him" This is what I think we will see in the future from the BEST TEAMS. Every player is IGL or when every player would actually MAKE the same call based off the same info.
