Heroic suspend HUNDEN following ban

Nicolai "HUNDEN" Petersen has confirmed that he used the coaching bug exploit in two matches and accepted the one-year ban handed to him, with Heroic suspending him effective immediately.

Following their internal investigation, Heroic have come out and announced their findings regarding HUNDEN and the ban handed to him by ESL and ESIC due to the abuse of the coaching bug.

The 29-year-old Dane admitted to using the exploit in 10 rounds of a game against Astralis during DreamHack Masters Spring (19-16, 16-14 loss) and in 13 rounds in a game against Spirit in the Home Sweet Home Cup S5 (16-13, 16-5 win), and accepts the reprecussions that follow.

HUNDEN admitted to using the coach bug against Astralis and Spirit

"CS:GO at the top level is super competitive and I saw an edge which I knew was wrong, but I took it and used the bug in-game" HUNDEN said in the statement, adding that he acted on his own, "without the knowledge of my teammates".

The coach added that he felt remorse for his actions and decided to contact Michau Slowinski, the freelance referee, to explain how the bug works. "I knew it would have professional and personal ramifications for me.", HUNDEN adds.

"I am sorry for letting down Heroic, my family and all of our fans. I only want the best for the Counter Strike community, and my actions during these two games are something that are not part of the community I want and love."

Similarly to Hard Legion, Heroic claim that the players were unaware of the coach using an exploit: "Heroic has, after carefully reviewing recordings of these matches, no reason to believe the players of our team were by any means aware or complicit to this bug abuse".

With HUNDEN suspended from the team, Heroic are now coachless:

Denmark Casper "cadiaN" Møller
Denmark Johannes "b0RUP" Borup
Denmark Martin "stavn" Lund
Denmark Nikolaj "niko" Kristensen
Denmark René "TeSeS" Madsen

HUNDEN's full statement is available below:

"The recent allegations made against me are true. I take full responsibility for my actions during the Dreamhack Masters tournament and the HomeSweetHomeCup 5. CS:GO at the top level is super competitive and I saw an edge which I knew was wrong, but I took it and used the bug in-game. I acted on my own, without the knowledge of my teammates.

"I felt remorse for my decision, and I still do, but realised that I could never take back my actions. Therefore I decided to contact Michau Slowinski, the ESL Admin, to explain the bug that was a part of the game at the time. I knew it would have professional and personal ramifications for me.

"I am sorry for letting down Heroic, my family and all of our fans. I only want the best for the Counter Strike community, and my actions during these two games are something that are not part of the community I want and love.

"I accept my punishment but have hope you will welcome me back to the stage one day.

"My sincerest apologies, HUNDEN."

twitter.com/mibr/status/1300538377092173.. HUNDEN is not kicked. HUNDEN is suspended, just like Dead is
2020-09-01 17:32
Dead's contesting tho Also he's still training with mibr (source: taco's instagram)
2020-09-01 17:42
Of course he is lol, hes trying to save his ass. HUNDEN confessed, so should Dead.
2020-09-01 17:43
If he wanted to cheat why do it only 1 round, let's be honest i like laughing at MIBR but I think that this is underserved ban.
2020-09-01 17:56
Well...we dont know if its more rounds or not, because Michal have not been through all games/POVs yet. Also, Yes, the ban Dead got was insanely long i suppose. HUNDEN and the Russian guy deserved the long bans 100%, but, Dead maybe could have gotten a shorter ban, like 2-3 months. But, i obv understand ESL/Dreamhack, they want to "scare" other coaches etc to not do this shit. But i think its insane that Valve hasnt fixed this 100% yet, that is beyond crazy.
2020-09-01 17:59
They suspect dead use it many more times but they were able to prove only that one. That is main reason he also got long ban.
2020-09-01 20:32
Yeah. But i think Michal will look more POV:s now so maybe he gets even longer ban.
2020-09-01 20:36
I think what is important is that dead refuses to confess, meanwhile Hunden did bust himself and he worked with ESL.
2020-09-02 14:32
Well yeah, but its good that HUNDEN stepped up and confessed. Dead should as well. Because its not the first time he does something shady like this. Not long ago he was looking at tournament stream to see economy etc from enemy team lol.
2020-09-02 14:34

If you read his personal statement (Which you obviously did not), you would realize that he was the one responsible for letting Michau Slowinski know that this bug existed. Something which Michau surely would deny if it was untrue. He was not caught, he caught himself. So all your national envy and guesswork falls completely flat. He won Cologne fair and square, and knew the clock was ticking for his inevitable ban, because he was the one who started the clock.

It's true it does say that in his statement, and perhaps that's something we can believe that it would've never had been discovered or perhaps it was already leaking and he caught wind of it. "national envy" who taught you such a big word? 😂 Envy of Denmark, yea keep smoking toilet paper buddy. Check liquipedia if ever confused. Who said anything about cologne? But on that topic, first week the bug was unpatched. So you bring up a good point
2020-09-02 11:10
The envy is obviously related to CS.GO. Dude, you flame so frigging hard, don't you get bored of it?
2020-09-03 08:39
"Therefore I decided to contact Michau Slowinski, the ESL Admin, to explain the bug that was a part of the game at the time. I knew it would have professional and personal ramifications for me" Just saying, he did try to make up for his mistake even before he was caught. That being said, I assume you have half a brain cell to read and comprehend. Lofty expectations ikr

How very noble of him to jump in front of the story before it bites him in the ass. Nowhere can you read in this "article" the time line of these events, he knew that they knew, don't kid yourself. But I guess this is something of honor where u come from. Perhaps time we took xypex from you so you don't corrupt his soul as well.
2020-09-02 10:59
Nothing to do with my nationality. Like you said, If we don't know the exact timeline of the events, or what actually conspired then assuming he played safe cause he saw it coming is just as wrong as assuming he legit did that out of remorse. Anyways I'm expecting way too much, rationale thinking?? No no that'll require an entire brain cell, way too much to expect. so it's fine

Why are you so sure about that? Look at what they achieved WITHOUT using the damn bug in Cologne. The Guy is brilliant at what he does. To be the best you seek out every advantage you can get, and that drive can sometimes lead you to go too far. The suspension is fair, but its sad for Counterstrike. We just lost one of the greatest minds in the sport. For a year at least.

and dead? using the bug in one round? lmao, he got 6 months. It's pretty strange that they ban a coach when he uses an exploit in the game but they don't ban a team like BIG who used the "bug" a few years ago. Also same goes for Fnatic, they were just disqualified, nothing else. But when a coach does it, they get banned.
2020-09-01 18:02
the bug was usable for everyone, big didnt do anything wrong until the agreement between all teams was done that the bug shouldnt be used, until then, fairplay.

Fnatic boost was usable for everyone? Coach exploit was usable for anyone as well? What's your point
2020-09-01 18:20
The fnatic boost violated regulations. About the coaching bug, idk but could be the same case. Besides, BIG's bug was more of a mechanic ingame, it's more of a greyzone, though they did violate their fairplay agreement.

Keep in mind that there was no rule about pixel walking at that time.
2020-09-01 18:27
It's not the pixel walk that was against DH's regulations, the boost allowed fnatic (and LDLC, who used a lesser version of the same boost in that match!) to see through certain textures that were made transparent. Of course this hardly played a part in why the boost was so effective, but that's why it was against the regulations, nothing to do with pixelwalking which, as you said, hadn't been adressed in the rules yet.

Ah thanks for explaining it.
2020-09-01 18:32
No problem. By the way, I personally don't think the coaches should've been penalized this harshly either, only if there was a second/ more serious offense than this.
2020-09-01 18:34
the bug was ingame and was IN the game, u could just use it while playing, no harm intended because you dont do anything extra, its not like the used some program or whatever. the coach bug was sth the coach had to do with "bad" intention, that wasnt done in the middle of a round, it was abused as a whole. i know what you mean, both are arguably wrong but i think theres a difference in the level of extent and "cheat". fnatic boost was the same as big bug for me, the players didnt do anything extra, its unfortunate, but not out of the game. coach bug was intentionally cheating to the extent of a wallhack.
2020-09-01 18:27
The BIG bug was known among the players for a while, and BIG stile abused it intentionally. How is the coach exploit any different?
2020-09-01 19:05
Cause the BIG bug can be used by every player on the server playing, the coach exploit needs some non-player to abuse it. Completely different story in my perspective. Ofcourse they used it intentionally, because it wasnt cheating or violating any rules but using basically a wallhack for a part of the map is surely cheating and thats easy to comprehend without reading any rules or settings. BIG bug was part of the game, coach exploit wasnt.
2020-09-01 21:40
How is it different? Cause i can't litterally see a difference. How is one bug that excists ingame different from another just because only coaches spectating can use it? All teams could use coach bug, just like every team could use the BIG bug. How is it different just because only the coach can use it? There is litterally No differnce.
2020-09-01 22:04
The BIG bug was a ingame bug usable for all PLAYERS while playing the game, but the coach exploit has to be used with intent of cheating and getting knowledge from a place where ure not supposed to see anything. A partial wallhack by a spectator is obviously alot different than a mechanical bug used by players. We can agree to disagree, different opinions, no problem. :)
2020-09-01 22:42
The BIG bug had to be used with intent aswell. And the coach bug was an ingame spectator bug. So your arguments are litterally void.
2020-09-02 07:05
Only because you disagree and dont seem to get my points, the arguments are not void. Pretty ignorant standpoint.

2020-09-01 17:58
They allready revivewed the demos and said Cologne was clean, so why?
2020-09-01 19:06
Do you think a one year ban on the coach is actual punishment? Strip them of something significant - slap the hand - teach them an actual lesson. Heroic will not be affected much from this outcome . They had a cheater on their team - they are guilty because he wears the Heroic jersey and represents them. CS has a serious cheating problem - more than any other hobby/sport I haven taken part in - statements need to be made.
2020-09-01 19:28
For what reason should they have taken the victory away? I could understand it if they used the bug in Cologne, but they didn't. They stated that the team didn't know he used the exploit. Let's make and example here then. Let's say that they figured out that the Kansas City Chiefs coach was spying on the other teams coach durring the super Bowl. Should they strip their title away and ban the whole team from playing? Imagine the backlash that would get. Furthermore this coach bug is directly comparable to the BIG crouch bug om inferno. The team knowingly used the bug for ill intent, but still didn't even get a slap on the wrist.

They can't sell the players if they are banned, it would bankrupt them. Release the recording and let an impartial judge decide. How can they let this team continue competing on just good faith? What a fucking disgrace this is. And the fact that nobody cares enough makes it even worse. What a shame.... CSGO is a meme now a days. Who can cheat or gain the most advantage wins.... I feel sick to my stomach for the honest and decent pro players out there. This would have never been handled this poorly over at the rivals offices of Riot. Still blows my mind that people believe the players didnt know haha! Ask any pro player. If your coach starts giving you comms you know he cant possibly know and dont do anything you are in the conspiracy as well. FREE IBP!!!!

Why would you ever admit it... Also why would you ban for a bug? Its the games fault not fixing it, not the users fault....
2020-09-01 22:31
You would admit it so you can say none other than you acknowledged the issue. Admitting it gives you the opportunity to take the whole blame for it. Protecting your org and the players. Perhaps that's why the little the org is, the faster coach taking the blame : little org come to that conclusion quick. Bigger org wait before admitting it due to crisis public relation adviser advises them to so insider people (such as TO) wouldn't think about this hypothesis seriously.

why is it so hard to believe that players didn't know? i mean any sane cheater would be vague about the exploit and just help the team without exposing it there is no need to risk confronting your teammates about this thing and the whole game would become even more suspicious
2020-09-02 01:24
Exactly. Its not that hard to do. If he saw some players in a part of the map he could say: "be aware of..." "Watch out for..." "They might be stacking A..." He has a reputation for being a tactical genius. With that in mind, it would be very difficult for players to distinguish between very good preparation/Knowing opponents tendencies and outright cheating. Hltv no-brainers are just looking for excuses to hate.

I don't get it, if he was exploiting the bug to take advantage during those games how come the team was unaware of what he was doing? I mean, as soon as he communicates with the team some information that it was impossible for him to have without cheating they should be at least suspicious about what he was saying, right?

it is against the rules of the tournament - I don't have the rule book but what I understood from other comments is that if you use a bug in the game to gain advantage that is in fact not allowed. I suspect they thought nobody would notice - well looking at mibr's performance who would have thought they were exploiting a bug ? :) sorry for trolling - take it as a joke

tbh i didnt expect him to be the one doing it, dead im not surprised one bit though KEKW

2020-09-02 11:40
somebody needs to do the job :) I suppose he wanted to prove himself and came across the bug and that made his work easier... imagine at school you are doing the maths test and somebody already written the answers on the desk before you and the only thing you needed to do is copy those answers to your exam paper I remember having this situation where I actually worked everything out myself regardless - but not everybody chooses the hard way The hard way though allowed me to learn and gain experience - now I am benefiting as I can use those skill in my work and clients appreciate it very much

2020-09-02 14:25
So, cheating is only bad if you get caught - right? I wont be surprised that in later days we will find out that most pros used some kind of little advantage like mouse flick towards player behind wall to know if there is anyone at all etc. Same like any sport or game there will be people trying to get upper hand/advantage especially if there is big money involved.

I did expect this from BR teams and teams from other parts of the world where cheating, corruption etc. are closely embedded in the culture, but not from HUNDEN, not in a million years, disappointed beyond words. In danish we are saying, an insult, MØGHUNDEN, which means the bastard, direct translation would be "the dung dog". That would be an appropriate nickname for him now.

All the best in the future Mr Hunden. You did some really great things for CS, then you took them all back by cheating. I think you should look into some study, it should be early enough to apply for next year. I personally don't think you deserve to be a part of the top level of competition after this. That's just my opinion though and either way, as I said, I wish you all the best in the rest of your life. Take care.
