NiP put nawwk on medical leave

The organization's performance team has decided to give the AWPer time off after he had been showing signs of exhaustion as of late.

Tim "nawwk" Jonasson is expected to be out of action until the beginning of the next Regional Major Ranking event in Europe, DreamHack Open Fall, which is slated to kick off on October 15, with Swedes being among the teams directly invited to the main part of the tournament.

Coach Björn "THREAT" Pers will step into the lineup during NiP's remaining matches in the ongoing ESL Pro League Season 12's group stage, against FaZe and fnatic on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

"With Tim we’ve decided to pull the trigger early on, channeling all our efforts into de-escalating the situation, before it turns into a much larger problem that could put him on the sidelines even longer," NiP's COO, Jonas Gundersen, explained. "With this course of action, we hope to have him back on the server sooner rather than later."

NiP are aiming to have nawwk back in time for DH Open Fall

The decision comes at a time when NiP are already highly unlikely to make it through to the playoffs of ESL Pro League Season, in which the Swedish side is currently sitting on a 1-4 record with just the aforementioned two matches left to play in Group B. If NiP don't manage to advance to the playoffs of the event, with nothing else on the calendar until mid-October they will have nearly a month to recuperate ahead of the start of DreamHack Open Fall.

nawwk's situation adds fuel to the conversation regarding burnout issues and oversaturation of tournaments at the highest level. Those topics have resurfaced in the last few months after Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer, Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander, and Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth took extended leave in May for similar reasons while the top-tier event calendar became even busier than usual amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"The competition around the tier 1 scene is reaching new peaks and the requirements on players staying ready at all times keeps growing," Gundersen stated. "It’s becoming increasingly obvious that the cushion we work with when a team is only consisting of five players is simply not enough. It allows very little room for error and puts an immense amount of pressure on the players. We’re paying the price for it in the short term with having THREAT to fill in and it's definitely something that we will look at how to mitigate in the future.”

+1111111 wtf are you thinking 1 game every 2 days
2020-09-16 15:04
Blast: 2 games in 1 day then
2020-09-16 15:05
nawk played like 10 series after a 2 months break time he has no burnout from the games. 10 games are not much in a month...
2020-09-16 16:57
You're thinking of officials. You're not thinking of unofficial games or scrimmages.
2020-09-16 18:47
who the fucks burns out in 1 month after 2 months in break? he has obviously other issues than burnout from the games.
2020-09-16 19:03
I just think about all the people who work normal jobs who are burnt out, they don't get to have breaks like this pussy does. These guys act like their mind is being destroyed by a video game
2020-09-16 22:06
true cant agree more
2020-09-16 22:14
Soo if a teacher who likes his job has a burnout hes a pussy as well?
2020-09-17 00:29
Are teachers not included with normal jobs? Or is your brain really small?
2020-09-17 00:45
Are professional csgo players not included with normal jobs? Or is your brain really small? Sorry i won, and mb my brain is smaller than yours but at least mine isnt filled with hot air:) Who defines a normal job? You? Dont think so...
2020-09-17 01:28
The fact you think esports is a normal job shows your IQ, over 50 million teachers in the world and how many csgo pros? Is a normal job something where most people retire in their late 20's? Retail workers work harder than these guys and they never get breaks lmao, but then again since you clearly have never had a job at all in your life, you wouldn't know.

Why not just get Olof as a standin or PALM1 to standin as the AWPer until Nawwk is back? lol Well, if its possible of course.
2020-09-16 15:07
Olofmeister is still contracted to FaZe Clan, and PALM1 is just a MDL level cheater. If I was NiP, I’d go for Peppzor or Svedjehed from Lilmix just to give a shot for a young talent, no other options.

They expect him back in a month for the RMR event and have no events between EPL (where their chances of making playoffs were already very small) and then.
2020-09-16 15:22
Yeah, but doesnt NIP have X games before the RMR event? If so, they could just use Olof or PALM1. EDIT: They have 2 ESL PL matches in a few days.
2020-09-16 15:23
They only have those 2 matches until RMR, so it probably is just easier to slot THREAT in for the last 2 games that aren't of any significance whatsoever.
2020-09-16 15:40
Yeah maybe.
2020-09-16 15:43
easier? yes Better? no This only sends the signal that they've already given up which is pretty unprofessional (in my opinion).
2020-09-16 16:20
That is the problem of the format not NiP itself. In round-robin format close to the end there usually are and in this case will also be games with no significance to one or even both of the teams playing.
2020-09-16 16:23
You're right, but it goes both ways. People are still betting on games, the players (and managers) still have to carry the brand NiP, hence "unprofessional". The results still affects the ranking which also affects seedings, invites etc. So even though it's just 2 games, it still affects more than what was written in the text.

We will have way more players like him leaving in the next months. The calendar is STACKED, with some teams like Vitality that have to play tournaments non stop from mid september to mid december without a single day off ... Just imagine if they were on the road.

2020-09-16 16:24
A couple of months being pro was too much .... Seriously I think this is a good thing by NiP as an org, but for real, how terrible could it be? Sure we saw his performance got down in the trash, but let's be honest: 1. He lives at home with 0 resposibilities 2. He has no wife or kids 3. He's working (playing) 8 hours a day just like a normal person (AND THIS IS THE ONLY THING HE HAVE TO DO) Stop being "nice" in this situation, just force him to go to the gym, socialize etc and he'll be fine! To let him off the hook and rest isn't the solution!

"Force him to socialize" "Letting him rest is not the solution" You do realize how horrible you sound rn, don't you?
2020-09-16 16:43
I can imagine that with people just reading and not thinking, yes. Sitting in his room all day, not doing anything besides playing, ofcourse this will play your mind sooner or later. He needs someone to motivate him to also have a life (outside of cs). This is the hard truth and their solution now will only make his problem worse if noone follows up on him. Hopefully the case is that NiP has planned for above mentioned, but it doesn't seem so.

The thing is...you don't know anything about the guy. Could be that he already has tons of friends and doing the same task over and over just burnt him out, even with all the support in the world. Could be that he is just an anti-social person in general and forcing him to socialize would make things even worse. Could be that he is struggling with more mental health issues than they made public. There's not one solution that will work for everybody if you know almost none of the details of his situation, is what I'm saying.
2020-09-16 16:49
I understand u, but my experience from haveing thousands of employees with the same "problem" and my experience from handleing the situation I will assure u that this "leftist" handleing of the situation at other companies (like the article) just wrecks their employees in the long run. Sure they "solve" the problem for now, but in a couple of days? weeks? years? By being nice in these situations isn't be nice for real in the long run. Stop looking at what the people say that they want, look at what the persons really NEED. F.E. : In the military, when your officer shouts at u, u can feel that he's not good for u, but him being that way makes u strong which is being nice to u. I see the corealation between those situations and this.

Yeah, coming from the perspective of somebody who has dealt with severe mental health issues for years, let's agree to disagree. I'd just like to say that it's absolutely not up to you to decide what a person needs, under no circumstances (unless they're mentally incapable of deciding for themselves and you're their caretaker, obviously). It's completely fine to give advice or share your point of view, but not being a clinical psychiatrist and most likely never receiving the full picture of a persons situation will always lead to you working under assumptions, as you're doing in this case. Not everybody is made to be a soldier. Let's be real, with how fucked up many of them end up, many soldiers are not made to be soldiers.

It's always enjoyable to read a human being giving a lesson to Mr Know-it-all and his narrow productivist mindset. Thanks.
2020-09-16 17:35
It's so funny how some people think that they "only" play a game even though it is statistically speaking only football were it is more difficult to become a professional. But yes, it is so hard going to our meaningless jobs every day. Probably we have a very difficult life and being a counter strike professional is sooo much easier. lol Many teams also have dietitians and mandatory physical exercise during the days. And no they are not gaming for "fun" like a normal person. If they were doing that we would all be able to take his place but we cant.

feel sorry for nawwk, he definitely looked exhausted and ill yesterday when facing Astralis and he didn't play his usual confident game Such a shame as the NiP guys have looked really good at times. It's a good move to let nawwk take time out and recover. Fair play to NiP for looking after their players I think alot of players actually hate the online/stay-at-room environment and it does not help their physical or mental health. I think JW is the same, I think he prefers being at LAN because that's where those players get really pumped and find their best form. Please please please stay together NiP :) Get well soon nawwk

A lot of ppl are struggling with working remotely even if it doesnt make sense. Youd think of they are just home stop complaining but its morez complicated than that. You have no socialization, you stay home alone for months, cant see family if they have medical predisposition, your schedule becomes shit because you dont have to physically go somewhere in the morning, get less sunlight, etc...
2020-09-16 17:33

He joined a few months ago and he is already tired, stressed or whatever? cmon.......this smells weird. THREAT and the sports director have destroyed this organization.
2020-09-16 17:37
I dont think so You should watch NiP's YouTube content where you see the guys playing and practicing together. The atmosphere is amazing, chilled and fun.... even in the "eavesdrop" comms videos, you can hear the players really have a good time, there's no toxic comments, always encouraging etc Threat is probably the nicest, most encouraging and fun coaches on the circuit!

probably you are right "the atmosphere is amazing", but i don't care the atmosphere, or if they are chill, or if there are no toxic comments. I want to see results, like all NIP fans, i want see that f0rest like any other old player left the team because deserved the change. I want see that twist is not having an underperforming since he is not the 1st awper, or twist and lekro have a contract with NIP after to being benched by FNATIC twice. The sport director is hiring underperforming players, I want see that nawwk is not requesting a medical time because he cannot find his place on the team. Bro, all the NIP fans want to see the team play good and get results, Threat is not getting that, he has been taking bad decisions for a long time, we don't care if he is the best encouraging coach in the circuit. We want see NIP win with the teams tier 1 and escalate in this fucking rank hltv.org/ranking/teams/2020/september/14.. which they are so far since a long time. Get the 2nd or 5th place is not an option anymore for their fans, they MUST win something.

I have 100% respect vs stress related problems and i highly respect organisations like Astralis and NiP who takes the issue seriously. But i cant help to think "if Naawk gets burned out now with ZERO lan events, just online events...how will he handle the competative cs when everything returns to normal with ALOT of travel days ect ?"
