DreamHack Open Fall closed qualifier bracket drawn; Tricked replace HERCEGNOVI
The European mix team was disqualified due to Paul "day0s" Niel's VAC-banned account, seeing the Danish squad invited as a replacement.
Sixteen European teams are set to fight for five spots in the upcoming Regional Major Ranking event, DreamHack Open Fall, with the closed qualifier action scheduled for September 22-25.
The eight invited teams, including mousesports, Complexity, and North, were joined by eight more squads on Saturday, when the open qualifier was concluded. However, after initially making it through to the closed qualifier, the mix featuring Nikola "Lobanjica" Mijomanović and Flatron "juanflatroo" Halimi, HERCEGNOVI, was disqualified from the event, due to day0s' VAC-banned account.
The French player apologized to his teammates and the "all the teams we met and won versus" for the situation, explaining that he wasn't aware that DreamHack Open Fall was a Valve-related event: "If I knew it was Valve event I wouldn't have played as I have always dodged those".
As HERCEGNOVI were ruled out, Tricked, the team they beat in the qualifying round-of-16 match, were invited to the closed qualifier instead. Dennis "sycrone" Nielsen's team will be taking on countrymen North in the first match on Tuesday.
The tournament will be played out using a double-elimination BO3 bracket, with only the five best advancing to the main event. The action will take place over four days with three rounds being played on the first and two rounds on the following days. Multiple matches will be played out simultaneously.
