peca joins FPX as General Manager

FunPlus Phoenix have signed Petar "peca" Marković as its new General Manager, the organization has announced.

The Serbian will be in charge of building the organization's new team and split his duties between managing its CS:GO and VALORANT divisions.

"Our main goal is to create a competitive, stable and winning roster that will be climbing the top of the HLTV.org ranking list in no time," the 28-year-old told HLTV.org. "My focus until the end of this year is going to be on finding and selecting players that would be interested in building this fortress."

"I'm now calling all of the tier-one players: If you are stuck with a wrong team or wrong organization and you think that you deserve a better home or better teammates, feel free to reach out to me via email or Twitter at any time," peca stated. "I'm always open for discussions, and we are ready to pay for quality."

The former Valiance coach will build a new team for FPX

He will be in a race against the clock to put together a new lineup for FunPlus Phoenix, as the second season of Flashpoint, where FPX is one of the member organizations, is expected to run in November.

peca is perhaps best known for his time coaching Valiance in 2018 and later managing CR4ZY following the rebranding of the organization, which peaked at No. 12 in the ranking after placing 9th-11th with the lineup featuring Nemanja "nexa" Isaković, Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač, Otto "ottoNd" Sihvo, Rokas "EspiranTo" Milasauskas, and Nestor "LETN1" Tanić.

More recently, the Serbian turned his focus to broadcast production in his home country with Relog Media, who hosted tournaments such as Home Sweet Home and Nine to Five and produced the Eden Arena: Malta Vibes series.

peca will hope to turn the Chinese-based side's luck around in CS:GO after their entry into the game was filled with drama. FPX became a franchise team in Flashpoint early this year and entered the tournament with the former Heroic roster, but the deal between the two organizations fell through at the last minute as Astralis swooped in to snatch away Patrick "es3tag" Hansen.

FunPlus Phoenix went on to search for a temporary team in the franchised tournament series, first setting their sights on Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir's Swole Patrol before eventually fielding the former Bad News Bears lineup around Peter "ptr" Gurney.

first off, hunden is a banned couch right now for many events. Second, hunden is a worse fragger than daps, and third, he has less success than daps in the game even though he is a better igl(hint: it is because he is actually a way worse player).

They should 100% get daps and build a mostly-EU roster around him (if Daps is ok moving to Europe) Something like: Daps Dycha Fer Bodyy Maka

2020-09-25 12:58

United Kingdom StonkBonk
Fer 100% still has the juice to play t1 Daps is by far the best IGL on the market right now, and has history of building, then taking teams to a pretty high level Bodyy perhaps isn’t the best choice, but switch him out for a young talent like Rainwaker, flameZ or KEi and this team can easily be top 10-15 This team would also be fairly cheap, with the only fairly big buyouts being Dycha and Maka probably - and even those won’t be huge
2020-09-25 13:07
fer is average player nowadays. acting like an asshole, not willing to even train, bad english. horrible pick up for any team that want to be t1 daps should focus on coaching. great mind, good igl but horrible fragger. in current meta you cant have dead weight like that if you dont have another 4 insane players(which you dont) we already had a chance to see bodyy on t1 level. average player. he has maybe 1.19 rating this year but against which teams? 0 maps vs top5/10/20 and 1.01 rating vs top30 dycha and maka are surely good options but the rest is really meh. barely t2. why dont you have for example nivera there since you have maka? much better option than both bodyy and fer. lucky could be also an option as an igl. he has experience with that role(with good coach it could surely work) and he is better fragger than daps. xellow is stucked in nexus. young talented player that wont be that expensive as well and im pretty sure that i would be able to find way more better options than fer. btw they are pretty rich and if they are really ready to pay like they said then they can poach way better players

Has like no experience but looked super solid to me in the matches i watched - might be inconsistent i dunno. Only croatian player that comes to mind is DEPRESHN but he has even less experience - like none pretty much. Both could be future stars and i don't know a 5th serbian (/croatian/bosnian/whatever) speaking player that's at the level of Niko Hunter and the likes, the team would already be super stacked so might as well go for an up and comer. But if we're talking about reality i hope G2 get's rid of kenny and get's broky. That is if the Niko deal does happen of course.

Because the Flashpoint partner teams don't fully benefit from getting eachothers players. Making another partner weaker makes the whole league weaker, which makes the project weaker I think it will be rare we see Flashpoint teams get players from eachother, especially now that ESL and Blast are so far ahead when it comes to skill level and rankings
2020-09-25 15:37

They got money. They have looked into buying full rosters earlier. But there are players out there, the issue will be IGL If I were in Peca's position I would most likely get a seasoned IGL and a decent coach to start up the project just to get proper youngsters slotted into proper roles and have a protocol built. But where the IGL know that he will be out of the team after 6months or a year, but will get a staff position once the roster is full. As soon as a decent/better IGL become free or cheap, you do the swap. For instance: Get Emi or Letn1, since 1 is FA and the other one is on the bench. Both have worked as coaches, both have been IGL's, both have knowledge and experience in developing talent and long term projects in international lineups. Then you slot in players like RigoN, MALI, Xellow, Tudson, Nukkye, HS Almost no cost and you got something to build on for at least 6 months.

Surely such a big org like FPX who have paid a large sum of get into FP would go for a better roster than Emi and some young unproven europeans. There are definitely better available players to build around, either on the free agent market or via a buyout (as Peca stated FPX will be willing to do)

Sure, that's the hope. But the current climate and the price development of players between 2019 and 2020 have made it more difficult. The one "road" I mentioned was to build something from the start and take bigger risks and build longterm so you get a good team for Flashpoint 3 instead of for Flashpoint 2, as Cloud9 are doing. But there are a lot better solutions, but it will cost. Peca's statement is more or less like a soft vesion of Jason Lake and HenryG. Both Cloud9 and CompLexity got shit from the community when they announced their players. But I wish they start in the right way like both CoL and C9 did: IGL and structure first, then build after a common vision.

Flashpoint isn't fixed. Flahspoint 1 was supposed to be split between LA and Stockholm, but they had to stay in LA due to travel restrictions. AFAIK they look into having Flashpoint 2 in Europe. My guess would be Balkans or Kiev.
2020-09-25 16:23
Interesting in what roster can they field, I can see them getting emi, he would be a really good pickup imo., hoody would be really good aswell, if they have some money then they can take sAw, because he is a really good leader, ZOREE is one of the best players in Finland would be nice to have him to, sinnopsy as the last one would be insane, it would be based on old HAVU but with addition of emi and sinnopsyy, for me it would be nice.

Not bad pickups, but they are a Flashpoint team which means they will need to aim for a top 20 in a decent ranking (currently using HLTV) This mix you're talking about will be fine for an MDL or lower EPL team, but that's not the aim for the FP teams
2020-09-25 15:54
There are no FLASHPOINT teams that are TOP 20, they can aim for it, but it doesn't have to be TOP 20, + you don't know how will they play.

Gen.G is top 20 right now MIBR, Cloud9, c0ntact & MAD Lions have been top 20 since Flashpoint 1, but as soon as they dropped out all 3 started making quite big changes, because being outside of top 20 isn't good enough. You can compare this to VP, ENCE, North and other non-Flashpoint teams who wait for about 6 months of decline before they do a roster change. Current roster changes of at least 2 players in Flashpoint teams: DIG, MAD Lions, MIBR, Cloud9, c0ntact, FPX, ENVY That is 7 out of 8 Flashpoints team trying to do drastical changes to improve. 8th team is Gen.G who currently trial a young PUG-god because they weren't happy with their results and development even though they were quite constantly between 10th and 20th for almost 6 months. The only reason they're out of top 20 right now is because they did a roster change.
2020-09-25 16:05
Making changes so quickly doesn't make those teams better, that's why teams like ENCE or North are waiting with changes. And Gen.G are testing young PUG god because their IGL left them not because they wanted changes. And Gen.G rn. aren't even close to TOP 20, and with daps it wouldn't be better.

Ence went I months without a roster change where they only won about 2 matches against top 20. North is one of the worst managed teams in history. Did you read the Statement? Gen.G is 21st (17th with IGL which mean they are close to a top 20 team They missed out on playoffs in EPL by 1 game and most of their losses were really close

I did, and all of those teams that are making changes qucikly are not good, so it's funny. And Gen.G is getting destroyed by teams like EG, Liquid or FURIA, and they are even losing to Chaos, they are not good.

Against Liquid they lost 2impsct rounds and on OT 2-0 Against Furia they got beaten due to playstyle Against EG the lost 1 impact rounds on each map. 2-0 Losing 2-0 might look bad. But they did it as closely as possible, while having internal struggles/issues

But they lost every of those matches, they are not a good team, if they would be good then they would show it, they would play well, get some results, and they are terrible. And for me they can lose 2-1 closely or 2-0 with no competition, they lost, they didn't win, and that's the problem.

Would love to see some Asian talent joining them, so much untapped potential, could be possible considering its a Chinese org. Someone like Kaze, Jamyoung or Xign would be sick.
