vENdetta takes over as Dignitas head coach, friberg assumes IGL role
Dignitas has announced a new batch of changes in their team, with Fifflaren stepping down from the head coach role and being replaced by the team's former analyst Halvor "vENdetta" Gulestøl, while Adam "friberg" Friberg took over as the team's in-game leader.
The news comes following Dignitas benching two of the "Original Five" NiP members, Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund and Richard "Xizt" Landström, ending the legendary squad's reunion under a new banner. The team is currently on the look for a duo to complete their lineup ahead of Flashpoint 2, which is scheduled for November.
On Dignitas' YouTube, Fifflaren explained that the cancellation of the Major was the trigger for the team's overhaul, but added that changes kicked-off after their participation in the Eden Arena Malta Vibes cups, when friberg started calling the shots in-game.
The 32-year-old said that the team "did like to play a little bit of a looser play style" back in 2015, but that it became apparent more structure was needed in 2020 than Xizt was providing. friberg, who in-game led OpTic and Heroic in the past, provided that to the team after the calling responsibilities were handed to him. The 28-year-old Swede, formerly known for his work as an entry rifler, will continue calling the shots as the team gets rebuilt and two new players are added to the lineup.
During the period of big changes, Fifflaren decided to take a step back and "think about his own health". Previously, his workload included both coaching the team, waking up at 2 AM local time in Los Angeles, and participating in organizational meetings after it. Now the latter, managerial part will become his focal point as VP of Esports for Dignitas.
To replace him, Dignitas has promoted vENdetta to the head coach position after the Norwegian spent seven months as the team's analyst. "When Fifflaren pitched me to the rest of the guys they were pretty open to it", vENdetta explains, as he follows the likes of Janko "YNk" Paunović and Jason "moses" O'Toole in transferring from an on-air talent to a coaching role.
"I'm really looking forward to the challenge, obviously still gonna be learning the ropes as we go," the Norwegian said, "But I feel like I've picked up a little bit from Fifflaren already just from sitting in on practices and watching how he has gone about his role as a coach."
vENdetta also shared that Dignitas haven't signed anyone yet, but they are talking to potential prospects to complete the team. Fifflaren added that, because of the Major being cancelled "it is also a bit of a wild west a lot of people making moves at the same time". Finalizing the talk, Fifflaren stated that the team's goal is to complete the lineup for Flashpoint 2 and they aim to win the event.
