BOOM support Apoka following ESIC ban
BOOM will continue to work with the Brazilian coach after he received a ban for over five months by ESIC.
Alessandro "Apoka" Marcucci was handed a ban by ESIC on Monday after being found to have used the coaching bug in two full matches and in single rounds in four more. His punishment was reduced by 85%, to 5.4 months, as he was awarded concessions for coming forward ahead of the announcement of ESIC's inquiry into the use of the coaching bug and for assisting with the investigation.
The Indonesian organization has expressed its support towards the Brazilian coach, who denied any wrongdoing shortly after the announcement of his ban, as he claimed that he hadn't been present on his computer during the two instances in which he remained in the bug for the entire match.
"We firmly believe that Apoka did not intentionally use this bug to gain an unfair advantage," a statement from the organization reads. "Apoka himself fully cooperated with [ESIC's] investigation and has explained his side of the story on his streams, where he explains a failure to disconnect due to his not being on his PC."
"Moving forward, while we are disheartened with ESIC's decision to penalize Apoka, we respectfully accept and will comply with their decision. However, we would like to make clear our support for Apoka and our decision to stand by him and continue working with him."
Apoka is allowed to continue working with the team behind the scenes despite his ban, but he will be unable to enter the server and communicate with the team in any way during official matches at ESIC member events until the ban expires.
BOOM's news follows several other instances in which banned coaches have kept their jobs in their respective organizations, including OG's Casper "ruggah" Due, FURIA's Nicholas "guerri" Nogueira, Hard Legion's Sergey "starix" Ischuk, Heroic's Nicolai "HUNDEN" Petersen, and AGO's Mikołaj "miNirox" Michałków.
