Four teams through to Flashpoint 2 closed qualifier

Gambit, Budapest Five, Virtus.pro and Winstrike came out on top of the first open qualifier for the $1 million event.

The two-day tournament featured 317 teams battling it out in a single-elimination bracket with best-of-one matchups. Once the participants had been whittled down to the final 16 teams, the format switched to best-of-threes to determine which teams would progress to the closed qualifier.

In the latter stages of the closed bracket, a young Gambit squad proved their promotion to the organisation’s primary team was worth it by making short work of Project X and Mustang Crew in swift 2-0 series, with Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov recording a 1.37 rating across the two matches. Meanwhile, Budapest Five took down Galaxy Racer and SKADE in a similar fashion.

Gambit stormed their way through the qualifier without dropping a map

On the other side, Virtus.pro were put to work against Giants and NAVI Junior in three-map affairs to secure qualification, while an Aleksey "El1an" Gusev-inspired performance saw Winstrike overcome sAw before Aleksey "NickelBack" Trofimov came alive to spearhead his side to victory over 9INE and round out the teams moving on.

A second open qualifier will take place on Saturday for four final spots at the closed qualifier, which is slated to run from October 12-14 and hold two places at Flashpoint 2, where $1 million will be up for contention.

Flashpoint is a meme league with too much money. Overhyped with bad teams and Thorin is a clown.

Very reasonable to hate on an up and coming TO that tries to grow the scene simply because you dislike one person that is involved with it

Thorin is clown and it was their decision to make him the face of their operation, therefore it's their fault.

let's see what our brazillian bros have to say
2020-10-10 21:57
because MTG having a monopoly is so much better of course flashpoint is a lower tier tournament right now, but we need more TOs in the scene other than just MTG owned ones so there is actual competition like we used to have eleague, mlg, starladder blast won't have any calendar space this year, neither will flashpoint so only the non-esl teams will be able to join then we have the 2 majors, at least one of which will be ESL all of the remaining tournaments, probably 90%+ of them, are ESL/Dreamhack/IEM who are all owned by the same company

Gambit is showing some potential, with small changes they could be a TOP 30 team. Budapest Five is looking really good atm., they might have a chance at the closed qualifier. Same for Virtus.Pro. Winstrike is looking pretty good tho, with small changes they could be maybe even a TOP 20 team.
