FaZe through to IEM New York final to set up rematch with OG

The tournament's best-of-five title decider will be another showdown between the two international teams.

FaZe are through to Sunday's grand final of IEM New York's European division after seeing off Vitality in the semi-final stage. The international team carried their imperious form from Friday's group stage victory over BIG as they looked a real cut above Vitality, who were on the back foot for the majority of this two-map series. It was yet another dominant performance from Nikola "NiKo" Kovač's side, who have looked dominant in every match they have played in this tournament, except the 0-2 loss to OG — the team they will face in a best-of-five series for the title.

This will be FaZe's first final since picking up Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye, who delivered another strong performance to take his tournament rating up to 1.13 and silence his critics after struggling to make an impact during his first months with the team.

"We are not playing like pussies anymore," NiKo said after the match when asked about FaZe's improvements. "We are going for the plays, we are no longer hesitating. We have switched some roles, which fits Kjaerbye better and is the reason why he's performing better."

FaZe came out all guns blazing, taking the game by the throat during the early stages as they raced to a 6-0 lead, with Kjaerbye raising eyebrows with a clean 1v2 clutch on the A site. Vitality then finally put their foot down to hold back their opponents, equalising the score at 6-6, but FaZe were unwilling to let things get out of control and ended the half with an 8-7 lead, with Håvard "rain" Nygaard nearly pulling off a miraculous clutch in the final round.

Kjaerbye will play his first final with FaZe on Sunday

Now playing on the T side, Vitality took the pistol round to restore parity at 8-8, only to collapse against FaZe's force-buy in the following round. The French team never recovered from the blow and struggled to make their presence felt in the half as any round they won was quickly countered by NiKo's troops, who rallied to a comfortable victory.

Inferno began with FaZe jumping out to a 3-0 lead before Vitality took control of proceedings. The French team enjoyed a period of dominance and went on a 5-1 run, but then FaZe tightened up and took the upper hand to finish the half on double digits following an impressive six-round streak.

A trio of kills from Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut in the pistol round marked the beginning of Vitality's recovery as the French team began to eat into FaZe's lead, even with some blunders along the way. With the score tied 14-14, NiKo punched a hole in Vitality's defense with a long-distance headshot onto ZywOo to put his team on match point, with the 19-year-old prodigy failing to keep his side in the game in the final round as the French defense was ruthlessly prised apart.

I think so too. FaZe is basically 50/50 no show or steamroll And they already "no showed " against OG, I think this time everybody's aim will be on point and they will just steamroll them.

I mean, he's not been in competitive matches for a while, before he came into Faze. Only naturally it took him a little while to find his groove again. Still think the role changes and whatever the new direction the team is taking is the main reason they're looking in good shape. If NiKo is indeed no longer IGLing, it makes a lot of sense....

awesome series, 14 - 14 on the deider map.. i saw zywoo on 3 kills 10 deaths or something really bad like that but after a couple rounds i look to him again and suddenly he has 14 kills and topfrags somehow. but he playednso fucking selfish this series, going window to short on mirage without throwing out an ak to his teammate and just dying... and last round on inferno 15 - 14 shox buys an awp and a deagle and drops zywoo the awp so he can try and solocarry.

I don't know if you noticed but they made him entry a lot (with deag/AK) on this serie, which is just a stupid way to use your best player by far. He was probably gotten to/triggered

I'm really hoping OG can take this one. That would be massive for their org. If Faze wins it's just what people expect of them. But if OG takes it, it's gonna elevate them a lot for us casual fans and the teams we regard as top tier contenders.

Lets be honest OG is tactically better team today, and have much better chance of winning this event then Faze. I am happy Faze looks good now and we are having some improvements. But I have a feeling that Faze might win today. Flair doesn't checks out coz I love all International CSGO team out there, OG Mouz Faze <3

Real talk shoutout Niko and Ynk realizing they can’t just plop a new face onto Olof’s old roles. Faze look real good right now, cant wait for the final tomorrow. OG finally got all their players showing up too. Good luck to both teams.

Vitality need to change their roster. And built around zywoo. You can't always rely on players like shox & rpk to show up every game and help zywoo. They're inconsistent. And we all know apex & misutaa are just garbages. Apex and JW now is neck a neck for being the biggest washed up player.

I'd say they just need any combination of three of their players to "show up" to win. Most probable would be NiKo/broky/kjaerbye if we go by current form
