Flashpoint 2 closed qualifier invites revealed

Sixteen teams from across Europe will be duking it out for two spots in the $1 million league.

B Site has revealed the names of the eight teams that have been invited to compete in the closed qualifier for Flashpoint 2. GODSENT, North, and FORZE headline the invite list for the tournament, which will also feature eight teams determined by open qualifiers.

The 16 teams have been split into two double-elimination groups, with all matches being played in a best-of-three format. The group winners will earn spots in the second edition of Flashpoint, joining seven of the league's eight founding partners - including Cloud9, MIBR and defending champions MAD Lions - and three invitees ranked inside the top 20.

GODSENT are the highest-ranked team invited to the qualifier

The seeding was determined by HLTV.org's world rankings. This sees Group A contain just three invitees, while Group B features five, including Flashpoint 1's third-placed team, HAVU, who could field ENCE AWPer Elias "Jamppi" Olkkonen as a stand-in.

Below you can find the groups and the opening match-ups:

Group A:

Europe GODSENT vs. Sweden Lilmix
World Winstrike vs. Europe Secret
World Virtus.pro vs. Poland AVEZ
Europe Endpoint vs. Portugal SAW

Group B:

Denmark North vs. Hungary Budapest Five
Russia Gambit vs. Poland AGO
Russia FORZE vs. Romania Nexus
France Heretics vs. Finland HAVU

The way Flashpoint have run these qualifiers has been a joke. Open qualifiers announced two days before they start, closed qualifier invites sent out barely before and even during the open qualifier (see: Secret lost in both but still got an invite), casters getting conflicting information on whether they can stream matches, and now this list of teams/opening matchups squeaks out at 10pm. This is meant to improve the scene and put pressure on ESL? I've seen $100 prize pool LANs with better organisation.

What's the point of inviting teams that failed in both qualifiers? They could just have invited them 1st and some other team could've tried their luck in the qualifiers. This way they just wasted a spot.
