lmbt's ban lifted by ESIC

The 33-year-old will be allowed in the server during official matches again after his evidence was deemed credible.

forZe coach Sergey "lmbt" Bezhanov has announced that his 7.5-month ban has been lifted by the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC). The Ukrainian had been one of the 37 coaches who had been sanctioned as part of the esports watchdog group's investigation into the use of the spectator bug.

lmbt had allegedly used the bug in four different games, the first of which while he was coaching HellRaisers in a 2015 FACEIT League closed qualifier match against Natus Vincere. The other three cases were from August 2020, one from a FunSpark ULTI qualifying match against Nordavind and two from an Eden Arena Malta Vibes Cup 9 series against MIBR.

lmbt is thrilled that his name has been cleared

Contacted by HLTV.org, ESIC confirmed that the ban was lifted upon verification of the evidence provided by lmbt. ESIC determined that the Ukrainian coach was doing on-air work for Maincast while the MIBR series was in progress — based on video evidence and corroborating statements from third parties — and that he disconnected in good time in the other two matches and reported the bug to the tournament admins. ESIC added that it is currently reviewing the evidence provided by other coaches and will issue a statement on this matter soon.

"I’m pretty happy and obviously satisfied with the outcome and ESIC's decision," lmbt told HLTV.org. "It was very hard for me and forZe when the news [of the ban] came out, but we knew our position and that our evidence was very strong, so we were pretty confident.

"This situation, with the bans and the appeals, has set a precedent, and everyone has to learn from this. I'm thankful to ESIC for conducting a correct investigation and coming to a good decision. I can't wait to get back on our TeamSpeak during matches."

lmbt has received the green light to coach forZe in the remainder of IEM New York, a Regional Major Ranking (RMR) in the CIS region. The Russian team have a 1-1 record in Group A and will face K23 in their next match before taking on the group's heavy-hitters, Natus Vincere and Virtus.pro.

???? Ban was revoked
2020-10-15 20:53
Shouldn't have been banned in the first place. Had to prove his innocence when all the evidence they had was that the bug had occurred during the game.
2020-10-15 21:41
its fair to review first otherwise every coach would have jumped on same train to get unbanned. this way they only unban those who prove themselves innocent.

2020-10-16 02:03
It may be true, that they banned a practically innocent coach, but I get their point. It would take such a huge amount of time to dive deep into every case before banning, also, there are not so many innocent coaches. Most of them deserve their restrictions, with lmbt and maybe a few others being an exception. They also now unbanned him after he provided evidence, so I see nothing wrong there
2020-10-15 21:06
Sure, let's just ban everyone because ESIC can't do proper investigation... This is complete bullshit.

but..... they did a proper investigation... you do realise people arent magic right? they banned everyone, then reviewd and unbanned the ones that were innocent??? ??????????????? you're just sadlty you're favorite coach got banned lmao
2020-10-16 06:43
Ok let's put everyone in jail and then get the innocent out, sounds good ngl
2020-10-16 08:07
How would you do the process? A) Not ban anyone and notify everyone who was involved with the bug to defend their innocence in X days, otherwise ban? (Overcomplicated) B) Not ban anyone until proven guilty by other ways?.. How do you envision that? What resources does ESIC have to throw such investigation? Current process looks the most logical to me. The analogy with jail doesn't work because jail is a way more severe punishment by itself, and way more complicated logistically. Analogy with real life would be: you are a SUSPECT under investigation (=limited in life in some way, in this case limited at doing a certain job only) until proven innocent in court. Which LMBT did, and now he's completely free.
2020-10-16 14:07
You're right, but I don't think that the A option is overcomplicated. It is indeed harder than banning everyone, although it is the most fair option here. ESIC chose the easiest way.
2020-10-16 15:06
I'm saying it's not overcomplicated because there are probably quite a lot of people investigating these cases, so texting around 40 coaches and waiting for their proofs of innocence wouldn't take ages, but yeah, it's longer than saying that everyone is guilty.
2020-10-16 15:10
No, this way was actually way harder and also the best decision. First of all, ESIC does not have that many resources and secondly, if you contact all the coaches you're about to ban, inform them of the ban, and then ask them for evidence of their innocence do you have any idea how much bs, made up or fake shit you're gonna get from people just trying to get out of their punishment, its gonna take ages to review all that garbage just for them to end up banned anyways. I'm also betting big money that there's maybe a handful of coaches at most that are gonna be unbanned, most of these people don't have evidence of their innocence and were correctly banned, lmbt was an exception, not the rule
2020-10-17 04:41
Which way do you mean by "this way"? As for resources, they have already watched the demos and they needed to take one additional step before announcing who got banned. A long, but a good step in order not to damage innocent coaches' reputation.
2020-10-17 07:27
are you dumb or what?
2020-10-15 23:28
Always called dumb for telling the truth, but no one told me why, although I explained a hundred times that it is straight snitching and there was nothing good in it.
2020-10-15 23:41
literally everyone above me told you why, but you're stubborn as fuck and won't accept anything but your stupid point of view
2020-10-16 05:49
They should've take their asses and go to shit in toilets - this way they would do less harmful things, 'cause only this shit is dirty. Coaches just took what was open. Imagine if you'll go on the streets and accidentally you find some good money. Again, it happened 'cause of dumbness of someone else, and not you. And then some third party rat sees what you are doing and reports that to police, like you are thief and that shit. Now: YOU SAW FUCKING VALVE GETTING SOMETHING OVER IT? THEY LEFT FUCKING INNOCENT FOR THEIR DUMBNESS. USELESS WASTING OF TIME TO RUIN PEOPLE'S CAREER, AND NO ONE, LITERALLY NO ONE OF THESE COACHES ACTED THE WAY THEY RESPECT THEMSELVES. EITHER THEY OBEY OR DEFEND, BUT NOBODY TRIED TO ATTACK. ESIC suck Valve's cock 'cause it's not profitable to judge such a big company, it's easier to ban people who won't do shit for you. ESIC is banned from CS:GO scene, never stick your nose to adult's business, offended kids.
2020-10-16 08:49
that's a huge fucking bible to justify cheating, huh?
2020-10-16 17:30
Using someone's stupidity != cheating.
2020-10-16 17:37
abusing a glitch that gives you an advantage without reporting it when rules explicitly state that you should NOT do that = cheating we know this game has flaws, bugs and glitches, Valve is aware of that, that's why, if any person involved in a pro match, encounters one of these cases, it is expected that they report it immediatly. Most of these coaches haven't done that and instead decided to abuse it, gaining an unfair advantage over their opponents. Stop trying to justify this, it's useless
2020-10-16 17:46
So back again to my question - why Valve leaves innocent for that? It was reported back in the days when RobbaN saw that, and my respect for him that he didn't use it, although I don't judge the ones who solved to do it. It was 3 long years ago, and no one gave a shit when still information was leaked. Valve, admins are innocent for their stupidness and laziness, respectively, but when it was so fucking late someone decided to go through that snitching shit and blame coaches 'cause responsible persons turned a blind eye on it? Are you fucking dumb?
2020-10-16 18:03
Valve patched it somewhere around 2017 and it reappered earlier in 2019, and also ESIC has no power over Valve, they can't ban their staff on their own game, dumbass
2020-10-16 18:41
Of course these pawns can't do shit to Valve, that's my point these gems attack the ones who won't do anything against it, stupido.
2020-10-16 18:42
your point is that coaches are innocent and that ESIC are dumb for banning them. You're justifying cheating. STFU and keep malding
2020-10-16 18:44
Since ESIC doing that dumb shit, coaches are pretty innocent for me. Keep supporting these pseudo-heroes.
2020-10-16 18:45
the only dumb shit I see is coaches abusing a bug instead of reporting it
2020-10-16 22:36
Just seek help youre mentally ill, by your logic we also shouldnt ban players who abuse bugs or glitches. Actually why even ban anyone if a player uses a cheat its only possible because the company didnt do a good enough job with their anticheat and the player just saw an opportunity and used it so why punish him. Think once before you type ffs.

ESIC is a joke. It's the first time ever that I witness something like that. They ban people BEFORE they can even defend themselves??? WHAT THE FUCK?
2020-10-15 21:30
its a mass banning, they arent going to interrogate and investigate each individual case because theres still so many more matches they have to look through and its better to get the cheaters out of the scene before they hurt it anymore this year
2020-10-15 22:19
So let's ban everyone even innocent people that can lose their job and reputation before even investigating. Nice concept of justice.
2020-10-15 22:20
if theyre innocent theyll get unbanned??? then reputation gets restored? are you soft in the head?
2020-10-15 22:31
Instead of unbanning them when they're found to be innocent, how about banning coaches when you find them guilty.
2020-10-15 23:14
read my first reply idiot
2020-10-15 23:38
That doesn't justify anything. Just because it takes time doesn't mean you should ban now and investigate later.
2020-10-16 00:42
its better to get the cheaters out of the scene before they hurt it anymore this year, considering how this is one of the bigger scandals to hit cs in probably the worst time for a scandal to happen, orgs already pulling out and now they find out many coaches are actively cheating??? fuck bro id pull out of cs too if they didnt get punished and my team lost to them after they were acknowledged to have used it at some point but no full investigation yet, literal fucking moron
2020-10-16 00:57
You're absolutely wrong. First priority here should be to not ban innocent people.
2020-10-16 02:15
first priority should be to keep the scene as a whole alive??? what good will coaches do if theres no sponsors or orgs left??
2020-10-16 03:00
I doubt orgs like having their innocent coaches banned with no idea if or when they will be cleared.
2020-10-16 06:40
Lmbt got cleared pretty fast, people behave like ESIC is this giant org with insane manpower and funds when they're really just a super small team of a few people. Also funny how the scene that would love to personally, publically hang players who cheat suddenly hardcore defend coaches who obviously cheated. I'm calling it now lmbt is gonna be the exception, not the rule most coaches won't be unbanned because most of them aren't innocent. I would much rather have 2-3 innocent coaches banned for like a month or two at most than having cheating coaches or even teams running around unbanned for a year or more maybe even winning tournaments.
2020-10-17 04:54
thats why there is an appeal system, ESIC literally said give us evidence and we will unban, you have to remember ESIC doesn't have the time nor the funds to go through everything with a fine tooth comb. its like a fine from the police, you can get a fine for doing something and believe you are innocent and if you are innocent you can show the evidence at court and get proven not guilty and have the fine lifted. its the same concept
2020-10-15 22:50
They had time to go through thousand of demos (before it was automatized) wich was 2 months of hard work for 2+ people but not enough time to contact and hear arguments of 40 people before they decided to go public ? Gimme a break. There was absolutely no urge of banning people right away. They could have just announced the bug and investigation and come with their definitive conclusions after. Instead they pointed out people on twitter, started a witch hunt, announced bans and now they look like fools.
2020-10-15 22:56
they dont look like fools though, they had to do the coach bug investigation as well as match fixing investigations in both NA and EU/CIS and a stream sniping investigation with like a total of like 5 people in ESIC. they also said if you have evidence show us and appeal the bans and like here as an example when they are given evidence the bans will get lifted. they haven't done anything wrong as of yet, go watch the HLTV podcast when they had the ESIC commissioner on
2020-10-15 23:07
Okay so it's going to take a lot of time. That isn't a very good reason to ban people before you know they cheated. Especially releasing the names of the banned coaches if they're still under investigation.
2020-10-15 23:12
they had to act faster then normal with RTR events being a thing, if coaches who have cheated aren't given bans and the teams havent had there points taken away they teams who should be in the RTR events because they didn't cheat wont be able to because those teams who did cheat are there instead. then its more work trying to figure out RTR points and chasing up prize money teams would need to give back. its not as simple as just wait till the whole investigation is done because that could easily be over a year from now. they drew a line and said anything worse then this is a ban and if you dont think its fair you can appeal and the evidence you show will be reviewed, that is a fair way of looking at things
2020-10-15 23:19
Okay that makes sense. I still think they set bar for cheating too low though. I don't think coaches should've been banned simply for not reporting every time since it'd been happening for so long i doubt they thought reporting would've done anything.
2020-10-16 02:05
Let's say you get accused of raping by someone and you stay in jail a few months, lose your job and then you get the chance to appeal. See how dumb it sounds?
2020-10-15 23:19
if you get accused of raping someone you get put in jail with bail and then it goes to court, you also get to appeal the court finding and im not sure about your country but here if you are in jail and then new evidence comes out and you are proven not guilty you get a large payout from the government based on how long you were in jail for. if we wait for the whole investigation to be completed we could be waiting for well over a year ESIC just dont have the funding for that. if coaches are innocent then they can just appeal it.
2020-10-15 23:22
No, you don't get in jail. You get put in jail immediately if the person brought a reasonable proof that you did that.
2020-10-15 23:27
you dont just get put into jail, you still have to go through court
2020-10-15 23:31
Of course there is appeal system. It would be ridiculous if people couldn't appeal unjustified bans after such shit "investigations".

Guerri also just accepted it and didn't appeal it, im sure if he put in an actual appeal with evidence they would un ban him but Guerri has to appeal it himself and he has said he is fine with the ban and thinks its fair.
