FURIA defeat 100 Thieves to win IEM New York NA; qualify for IEM Global Challenge

The Australian roster's swan song effort proved unsuccessful as FURIA came back from a map down to win the North American division of IEM New York.

100 Thieves were in good form heading into the grand final, looking to make good on one last outing together amid Justin "jks" Savage's impending move to Complexity and as the organisation prepares to pull out of CS:GO. Aaron "AZR" Ward's troops were faced with the prospect of a rematch against FURIA, with the Brazilians having claimed a 3-0 victory in the ESL Pro League Season 12 grand final just three weeks prior.

Although 100 Thieves got off on the right foot, prevailing in dominant fashion on Nuke, FURIA quickly got back in the saddle as they edged out a win on Inferno before cruising through Vertigo. A stellar T side on Mirage gave way to a battle in the second half, but ultimately it was FURIA who came out ahead to secure the series victory, earn the lion's share of Regional Major Ranking (RMR) points, and secure a spot at the IEM Global Challenge in December.

FURIA took down 100 Thieves 3-1 to take home the title

It was a one-sided affair at the onset of the series as 100 Thieves made short work of FURIA on Nuke, Sean "Gratisfaction" Kaiwai stepping up to bat with a stellar individual performance as his side dominated the Brazilians for a 13-2 lead at the break. A pistol round and subsequent anti-eco victory following the side swap put AZR's side on match point in swift fashion, with the team putting a stop to a brief comeback effort from FURIA to secure a 16-9 map win.

Inferno was a keenly-contested battleground, a brawl in which FURIA initially led 4-0 before 100 Thieves clawed back, edging out a one-round lead at halftime. A strong start to their offensive effort saw FURIA regain the upper hand as they pushed up to a 14-11 scoreline, and although 100 Thieves fought back to stay in contention, it was the Brazilians who managed to prevail to tie up the series score.

FURIA remained in firm control as their pick of Vertigo got underway, battering 100 Thieves' defenses throughout the first half for an 11-4 lead. Henrique "HEN1" Teles stepped up alongside Yuri "yuurih" Santos after the break as the Brazilians wasted little time in bringing about an end to the map, winning five rounds in a row to take the map and pull ahead 2-1 in the series.

Andrei "arT" Piovezan's men once again got off to a stellar start on the CT side of Mirage, picking 100 Thieves apart to post another 11-4 lead heading into the side swap. It seemed as if 100 Thieves would be able to force a fifth map as they began shutting down FURIA in the second half, reading the rotations of the Brazilians on a handful of occasions to close the deficit; however, multi-kill rounds from yuurih and arT helped get the Brazilian side back in the saddle, with the team gaining ground to halt 100 Thieves's comeback efforts and close out the map, 16-11.

Is very unfair how many spots NA scene has for the major. SA scene should have more spots than NA, but because NA has 6 spots, brazilian team have to play there. If all the BR teams comeback to Brazil, and with the disband of 100T, I risk to say that the oceanic scene might be strongger than the NA scene rn.

True. NA needs to reduce its major slots to 4. Give Oceania/Asia and BR 1 more slot

NA+SA+Oceania combined should have 4 slots altogether. The fifth best team is already worse than the 30th European+CIS team

not true because before covid, cs was pretty much LAN events between the best teams of the world, the only diference was in the local aspect of training and stuff, I believe if the best brazilian team comeback to SA scene, we could see an improvement for the scene overall.

Team One just got in fourth right now, we have two good team and the rest is shit, as well in NA, but NA has more places, so these two teams take the places of team like EG and Team Liquid, while we could have more places to SA for this not happen

Having more major spots for SA woudn't change anything about where the teams are based. Neither Furia nor TeamOne nor MIBR (if that matters) would go to Brazil. It's much more than major spots, specialy market placing and brand marketing. Plus you can get sponsors more easily as you are being viewed by millions more people. Money also flows bigger in NA than SA. NA gets MUCH more visibility than SA.

I mean nadeshot looked cut in his vid. Pretty sure this all stems from them wanting to play in Europe and jks wanting to leave to try his luck in an international mix, and jkaem had other offers. Those two are the stars so losing them means may as well disband
2020-10-19 10:46
Lost all respect to ESL. 100 Thieves will disband after this match but they still don't do an interview on them because they are the loser, not even a goodbye. All they do was interview the winner and ignore the loser. Blast still interview Vitality after Complexity wins the final.

Lets breakdown all their S Tier appearances in 2019 and 2020 pre covid. S-Tier events are the only ones worth considering where you get top teams globally attending. Katowice 2019 - 20-22nd DH Dallas - 3rd-4th ECS 7 - 2nd (by far their best result still to this day) Cologne - 9-12th StarLadder Berlin - 20-22nd DH Malmo - 7th-8th StarSeries - 3rd ESL 10 (NA) - 9-10th And they didn't qualify for Katowice 2020. They have never won anything in true S-Tier, and their best results in S-Tier events are generally in weaker tournaments. Furia went on a crazy mad streak last year against lower tier NA competition, but nearly every single time they have to play in a REAL S-Tier event against europeans they get destroyed aside from a couple of decent runs. The bigger and stronger the competition at the event, the worse the play (Katowice 2019 terrible, Cologne terrible, Starladder Berlin terrible.) This hype train is going to absolutely be derailed by European teams who play a methodical style.

So if Valve don't add more RmR tournaments, we have this results Legends: - Evil Geniuses - 100 Thieves - FURIA Esports Challenger: - Team Liquid Contender: - TeamOne

Why? 100 Thieves go from CS, but team doesn't disbanding. Even if jks go in Complexity Gaming before major, ex-100 Thieves stil have slot.

If jks leaves, they swap places with Team Liquid. Even if besides Jks someone leaves, they will still have a slot in the Challengers.

It's likely, but I'm sure if an org wants the RMR points they can make an offer to the last 3 left.

Disagree, but they're definitely good enough for a tier 2 team who would get a big boost from a major invite. Regardless it looks like they are going to go their separate ways anyhow.

I'm quite sure it'll be Legends: EG Furia Liquid Challenger: Team One Contender: Either Cloud 9 or Gen.G or Chaos (depends if either of them are taking/switching more players before the Major)
