Virtus.pro sweep Nemiga to win IEM New York CIS
Dzhami "Jame" Ali's team finished the Regional Major Ranking event undefeated after a 3-0 victory in the grand final.
A convincing showing in the grand final earned Virtus.pro the title of the IEM New York 2020 CIS champions, taking down Nemiga with a 3-0 scoreline. The two finalists upset Natus Vincere and Spirit in the semis, respectively, but an inspired Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis (1.42 rating) ensured Virtus.pro got their first title since dropping their Polish roster.
Over the course of the event, Virtus.pro dropped just two maps, to K23 and FORZE, while taking down Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev's team 2-0 both in the group stage and the playoffs. Overall, Virtus.pro are on a 16-series win streak, with participation in Betway Nine to Five 5, Loot.Bet Season 8, and Flashpoint 2 next on the schedule for the team.

Aleksandr "mds" Rubets was in spectacular form as Nemiga ran up to an 8-3 lead on the T side of Mirage, boasting a 15-4 K-D, but Virtus.pro didn't let the half get out of control, with multi-kills from Timur "buster" Tulepov and Alexey "Qikert" Golubev stabilizing things and seeing it finished 8-7. Virtus.pro gained momentum after the switch, with YEKINDAR's quad kill pushing them to a 15-11 lead and an eventually a 16-12 win.
Three kills in the pistol and four in the second rifle round from YEKINDAR gave Virtus.pro a 3-1 lead on Dust2, but Rassim "Jyo" Valijev, mds, and Igor "lollipop21k" Solodkov fought back with big individual rounds, making it 5-5. The favorites then focused on Long and chained five rounds together to finish the T side 10-5 ahead. Doors for Nemiga's comeback were shut after Qikert held down B with a quad kill, with Virtus.pro closing it out 16-5.
Based on the first two maps, the series was heading to a quick conclusion, but Nemiga showed their prowess on Inferno by running up an impressive 9-2 lead as Counter-Terrorists, spearheaded by Anton "speed4k" Titov on the AWP.
mds then added onto that with two key clutches for a 12-3 half, but a mid-rush lockdown allowed Virtus.pro to get back into the map. Slowly but surely, they mounted their comeback, getting into the lead at 14-13 following a nine-round streak. With some clutch play on B, Virtus.pro completed the comeback, 16-13, to finish the series in just three maps.
