FaZe defeat OG in IEM Beijing-Haidian opener

The IEM New York champions left it late to secure victory as they wasted several map points on Dust2 and almost let a huge lead on Mirage slip.

FaZe fended off a late comeback on the third map to edge out OG 2-1 in their Group A opening match in IEM Beijing-Haidian.. With the two teams meeting for the first time since their IEM New York grand final encounter, in which FaZe had come out on top 3-0, the now Marcelo "coldzera" David-led team once more claimed victory over OG, this time in a nail-biter of a series. Helvijs "broky" Saukants, who topped the leaderboard with a 1.27 rating, proved pivotal in the team's map wins and shined throughout the series with the AWP.

A slow start to the matchup was soon made up for once broky got his hands on the Big Green Gun in the second half of Inferno to give his team first blood, 16-10. FaZe looked primed to end series in two maps with a strong showing on Dust2, but OG's resilience showed in overtime as Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen's troops forced a decider. Despite a promising comeback attempt in the latter stages of Mirage, OG failed to make up the round difference as FaZe emerged victorious following a dominant first half.

OG will drop to the lower bracket to face off against Spirit for tournament survival, while FaZe will clash with Vitality in the upper semi-finals.

coldzera and broky led the charge for FaZe throughout the series

OG started out strongly on their opponent’s map pick of Inferno by securing four early rounds on the CT side, but FaZe were quick to respond once a second buy could be afforded as they pulled back three of their own. A subsequent double by Aleksib’s squad was swiftly forgotten as FaZe strung together a confident five-round streak to head into the half switch with a one-round advantage.

A Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye triple kill in the CT pistol began what would be a more one-sided half, with broky coming alive as he found frequent success across the map and even locked down an ace to put his team at a 14-9 lead. Map point briskly followed before Issa "ISSAA" Murad stepped up with a phenomenal ace of his own to put OG on double digits, but Håvard "rain" Nygaard closed proceedings out with a double kill to hand FaZe a 16-10 opening map victory.

valde was instrumental in OG's Dust2 win

Dust2 followed a similar pattern to that of Inferno as OG jumped out to a 3-1 lead. A successful 2v4 post-plant from Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt and Mateusz "mantuu" Wilczewski added another to their team’s score, but FaZe temporarily stabilised on the defence to hold off the T side for four rounds. OG turned it up a gear in the tail end of the half to pull ahead comfortably at 9-5, with FaZe picking up the final round to reduce the deficit to three rounds at the midway point.

FaZe refused to let the score difference increase and got straight to work, swiftly claiming an 11-9 lead with a deadly offence. mantuu's AWP briefly edged his team ahead, 12-11, before the coldzera-led squad pressed on to hit series point. FaZe looked poised to take the series in the final round of regulation with a rain triple kill, but his efforts were all for naught as OG forced overtime. The back-and-forth nature of the matchup continued into a second overtime, in which OG did not falter as Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså and mantuu led the charge for a 22-20 win.

Mirage played host to the decider, where FaZe looked head and shoulders above their opponents. Spearheaded by the on-point trio of broky, coldzera and Kjaerbye, the IEM New York champions stormed to an 11-4 domination on the defence to put one foot in the upper semi-finals.

With FaZe up 13-4, it looked as if they would close out the series in commanding fashion, but Aleksib's troops valiantly fought back with an outstanding defence. With OG breathing down their necks, FaZe recomposed to edge over the line 16-12 and send OG to the lower bracket.

Just get rid of NBKEKW , make him coach or analyst or something if him being a "godfather" to the rest of the team matters but get him out of this lineup because he is holding them back! ISSA a beast as always , so fucking underrated!

Yes, him being coach would be great because i dont think they want to get rid of him completely. But he is also 26 years old so i think he wanna play few more years before coaching.

But he should rather start grinding again and rekindle that flame to be a Top competitor once more because that doesn't seem to be the case here and he is bringing down 4 other people along with him.
