MAD Lions defeat fnatic to secure Flashpoint 2 playoff berth

MAD Lions and fnatic won each other's map picks, Vertigo (14-16) and Inferno (16-11), before the Danes closed the series out in extra rounds on the decider, Overpass (19-15).

fnatic failed to take revenge on MAD Lions in the Flashpoint 2 Group A upper bracket final after they were eliminated by Frederik "acoR" Gyldstrand and company from IEM Beijing-Haidian in last place just days before. The Danes have therefore secured a spot in the Flashpoint playoffs, although they still have the Group A grand final coming up, which they will play for seeding in the quarter-finals.

The two teams picked the same maps as they did in their IEM Beijing-Haidian match-up, but this time around instead of each team winning their pick, they won the other team’s, with the series going to the decider, Overpass, which was not played in the aforementioned match. It was there that MAD Lions came out on top, knocking their Swedish rivals to the lower bracket.

fnatic will now play the consolidation final against the winner of c0ntact vs. Dignitas to try and secure the second Group A playoff spot and avoid having to play the last chance stage, where the three third-placed teams and one fourth-placed team will face off to try and reach the final stage of the tournament.

MAD Lions have secured a spot in the Flashpoint 2 quarter-finals

It was fnatic who took the lead on Vertigo, MAD Lions’ map pick, but the Swedes were unable to increase their 2-0 lead after the attacking team got their hands on rifles. Down 2-3, Jesper "JW" Wecksell and company put up a solid A defense to keep things even early on, but were unable to follow it up as the Danes regained a 5-3 lead. Two UMP kills by Robin "flusha" Rönnquist on a B-site defense went far in getting fnatic back in contention, as they tied things up after ten rounds and went on to win the half out, 9-6.

Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson and JW got doubles in the second pistol round to increase the gap on the scoreboard early on, further extending it after winning against the ensuing forcebuy and eco rounds by MAD Lions. The Danes called a timeout when trailing 6-14, after which they won four rounds in a row and started to mount a comeback, but two crisp headshots by Maikil "Golden" Selim in the twenty-sixth round opened up the A site and fnatic were able to get on match point. MAD Lions brought the map to the brink, but weren’t able to push it to overtime as fnatic won it 16-14.

Three opening USP kills by Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen paved the way for MAD Lions to win the first pistol round on Inferno, but they were then unable to stop a forcebuy as fnatic charged ahead. Not for long, however, as MAD Lions took a 5-3 lead after several chaotic rounds, further cementing their lead in what started to shape up as a one-sided half at 9-3. The Danes then hit double digits with a successful 2vs3 retake on B by Rasmus "sjuush" Beck and acoR giving up just one more round in an 11-4 half.

fnatic cut the distances winning the first three rounds of the second half, but were unable to stop a B play by MAD Lions in the first gun round. After two more rounds going the way of the defenders, MAD Lions were able to hit the B site successfully again and put the pressure on, winning a round on A to make it 14-9. fnatic started to challenge banana successfully, going on to win two more rounds, but MAD Lions were able to hit match point and close the map out, 16-11, to remain alive in the series.

fnatic gave up a 14-8 lead on Overpass, which they lost in OT

fnatic were able to get ahead on Overpass early on despite losing the pistol round, reaching 4-1 before acoR and Ismail "refrezh" Ali eliminated all attackers and defused the bomb. The two teams then traded rounds, although it was fnatic who were able to stabilize and take the lead by a large 10-5 margin at the half.

MAD Lions were quick to catch up in the second half, however, imposing their pace early on and not letting the CTs settle, reaching 8-10 before fnatic could stop a play on the A site. Taking control of the map, the Swedish squad got all the way to 14-10, but started to lose their grip on the match as they found themselves behind in the last round of regulation. Finally, however, they were able to break a seven round losing streak to push the map to overtime.

MAD Lions kept battering fnatic on the attacking side with methodical play in the extra rounds, winning all three rounds to hit match point at the half. It didn’t take more than one round after the switch for the match to end, as the Danes sealed the deal 19-15 to secure a spot in the playoffs.

csgo is also about motivation and mindset. it's just an online era now. flusha is a really good when he has the motivation and when he is playing in big games when other people lose it. mad lions still have everything to prove on LAN.

MAD Lions is looking really good atm. And for fnatic it would be better for both organization and players to go seperate ways, this team is dead.
