G2 eliminate mousesports to reach IEM Beijing-Haidian quarter-finals

G2 sent mousesports packing on Nuke, the decider map, after the two teams won each other’s map picks.

G2 are through to the IEM Beijing-Haidian quarter-finals after defeating mousesports, successfully ending their group stage run which started after an opening match loss to NiP and was followed by a 2-1 win over North. G2 hadn't met mousesports since the early days of the online era in ESL Pro League Season 11 and ESL One: Road to Rio, two bouts which mousesports won, making this the first time they played each other with their current compositions.

G2 took the first map of the series, Inferno, after strong individual efforts defending early on gave the team enough momentum on their rivals’ map pick. mousesports, now under the leadership of Torbjørn "mithR" Nyborg, who was in the server with his new team for the first time, didn’t let the series slip out of reach, retaliating on G2’s pick, Dust2, inverting the scoreline of the first map in their favor.

The series went to Nuke, the decider map, where G2 were quick to take control on the defense, and although mousesports tried to climb a mountain coming back from a 4-11 deficit when it was their turn to defend, it proved to be too much as strong team and individual performances got G2 over the finish line.

kennyS was highly impactful with the AWP on the maps G2 won

mousesports held G2 long enough in a 4vs4 afterplant on the A site of Inferno to win the first pistol round, going on to take a 3-0 lead ahead of the first gun round, but G2 were then able to get on the board thanks to individual plays by Kenny "kennyS" Schrub, Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač and Nikola "NiKo" Kovač. The Franco-Serbian team then doubled down, taking a 6-3 lead before the two teams split the last six rounds.

G2 hit double digits in the second pistol round, but weren’t able to hold on in a 2vs3 afterplant on B the following round as mousesports got within one, 9-10, ahead of the first gun round. G2 found a hole in the A site to remain ahead, but David "frozen" Čerňanský with a four-kill round kept things close. The European mixture tied things up at 11-11, but faltered late in the map as they could only tally one more round before G2 ended it 16-12.

G2 played a slow attacking pistol round towards the B site of Dust2, but weren’t able to plant on time, losing the round as mousesports then won against a forcebuy before getting overrun by pistols. They weren’t able to get a follow-up, however, and mousesports took control of the half, 10-5, only allowing G2 a smattering of rounds.

G2 won a 3vs2 B retake and got to 7-10, but mousesports remained in control. Although Audric "JaCkz" Jug had an impactful B defense with three MP9 kills to make it to get G2 back in the game as they closed the gap a few rounds later, 12-14, Finn "karrigan" Andersen's men didn't let G2 crystalize the comeback and tied the series up 1-1 after winning the last two rounds needed.

mousesports weren’t able to turn around a slow start on Nuke

mousesports flew into the top site of Nuke in the first pistol round to prompt a 5vs5 afterplant situation which they were able to secure, but G2 struck back in the second round to even things up and go on to take the lead against a weakened economy. Nemanja "nexa" Isaković and company then hunkered down on defense and took control of proceedings with a mobile kennyS roaming for information, winning the half 11-4.

G2 kept plowing ahead after the second pistol round, going up 13-4, but three kills by karrigan on a forcebuy kept mousesports afloat. The European combine then started to gain impetus on the defense, breaking G2’s economy, but their comeback effort was stopped as nexa with a two kills and huNter- with a triple were able to end mouz’s six-round streak before closing the map and series out, 16-9, to secure a spot in the playoffs.

G2 is actually looking pretty good, with small changes they can be a TOP 5 team I think. And for mousesports they just need to disband, faster they do it better for players and org. This team doesn't work at all.
2020-11-16 20:04
why mouz not disband yet? They tried to sell their garbage team but only got Woxic sold LUL

Lol why would you wait for your player to "adapt to the new role" if you can just pick another player of yours that is used to that role and can perform instantly?

Cause then itd be unfair to judge that player just upon sudden change in his role

Just giving equal opportunities to both. Next year they will select 5 man team.
2020-11-18 14:20
Contesting for top 1 or even being top 1 consistently will still be an underachievement for G2. Ultimate goal should be winning a major.
