ENCE's 18-year-old star cited a lack of motivation for Counter-Strike and decided to step down from the active roster in order to fulfill his Finnish military service duties.

Jere "⁠sergej⁠" Salo has announced he will be taking a break from Counter-Strike, stepping down from ENCE's active roster. The 13th best player of 2019 has been "benched in mutual agreement" after he expressed his intentions, with the Finnish organization loaning SJ's Tuomas "⁠SADDYX⁠" Louhimaa for the upcoming DreamHack Masters Winter Europe.

sergej will start his mandatory military service in January

"Jere (sergej) has come to the conclusion that he currently doesn’t have the necessary motivation to pursue forward in the intense world of professional Counter-Strike", ENCE's statement reads, with the organization revealing that he will stay contracted during his military service as his future is discussed.

The team praised sergej's playing ability, but stated that "we all agree that it is not beneficial for either party to continue without him feeling he can fully contribute". Once a standout player for his team, the 18-year-old averaged just a 0.98 rating in 2020, falling down to 0.91 for the last three months.

With sergej stepping down, ENCE now have just one player from the roster that was assembled in April 2018 and went on to reach the IEM Katowice 2019 Major grand final - Aleksi "⁠allu⁠" Jalli. Stepping in the shoes of sergej will be 19-year-old SADDYX from SJ, who will debut in DreamHack Masters Winter which kicks off on November 30th. The loaned player will join newcomer Joonas "⁠doto⁠" Forss who played just two matches with the team before it underwent another roster change.

ENCE will use the following roster in DreamHack Masters Europe Winter:

No, it wasn't a quick cash grab, it was a necessary move to get the money TO sign Sunny. Cutting xseven (which made the most sense) wasn't going to give enough money to the org if any at all to sign Sunny, Aeriel they would've got some money from + the loss of his wages to pay Sunny's, but again, not enough. That's why they cut Aleksib for Sunny.

Not really now a days. Back in lets say early 2000s and before pretty much every man without disabilites or mental health issues had to do their service in army or civil service. Now its a bit More loose. You can get something called "c-papers" easily. It means you arent needed in military/civil service during peace times. All you need to say is that you arent motivated and dont feel like the constant social atmosphere is for you and thats it. Heck, I just said that I smoke weed and that im not interested, this is almost 10 years ago and I didint need to go. There is still this mentality with some people in Finland that every boy has to go to army in order to become "real man". Thats why mist go, social pressure.

of course management is responsible but this is not how roster changes in cs works. obviously management won't do shit without other team members agreement. ence 100% asked twista and allu about their teammate's input (when they tried to get sunny). if twista and allu liked igl then it wouldn't have happened 100% also few moments 1)kicking aleksib from the management perspective is a huge damage to brand. everyone was expecting -xseven/aerial. why they fuck would they self-sabotage?! 2) aleksib was the one who denied getting sunny in his interviews. so he wasn't a part of the discussion. but everyone knew that allu was talking to sunny behind the scene. he even admited it in his interviews

it was his choice. finland's service is different from norway i think. if the state recognizes you to be a sports player you'll get special privileges. this means less time in the armed forces and same period of service. so if he's getting benched.. it was his choice.

Let's be honest if almost any country (NATO/other orgs not involved) were to get invaded they could not do anything about it. I'm Finnish and I hate when people bring up Winter War, like if modern days were anything like that. Finland would get fucked by Russia, if they actually launched all out attack, but they won't. Cost is just too high compared to gain. Without defence forces they could just pretty much walk to the capital and win without almost any resistance. Only period when Russia could attack is during WW3 and even then they could only send small part of their military to invade Finland.

AUG nerf was in June 2019 and after that ENCE lost to: -Heroic and Vitality in Cologne. Losing to Heroic was bad but Vitality was #2 and went all the way to finals, so kinda acceptable. -Liquid in IEM Chigago FINALS, Liquid was unbeatable at that time. -Renegades in Berlin Major, the story of ENCE was basically over at that point so can't count this in. One bad game after the nerf so I wouldn't say it affected them that much.

Yeah, but if they suppose to be top5 team with Aleksib, losing to #2 isn´t that obvious and they really didn´t have any chance to win 2 of the maps. In IEM Chicago besides Liquid there were no real contenders, except maybe G2 or Vitality and ENCE ended up finals without playing against neither one of them. In final the lost BADLY and got only 5 rounds total in 2 first maps, which you can´t explain just saying "Liquid were unbeatable".

What I have been wondering since Aleksib lefet ENCE, is that allu maybe the best AWP player in Finland, but does it cost the performance of the rest of the team if he gets what he wants? Aerial’s sick leave is just a scheme. Sergej plays in HAVU during his military service, like they have long vacations now because of corona. Aerial comes back to replace SADDYX who isn’t permanent. SADDYX might end up in HAVU aswell. Or return to SJ Gayming. And btw, zehN is not coming to ENCE because of natu nor will he go to HAVU because sLowi.
