XSET sign Originem roster

The top women's team have signed with XSET as they look to bridge the gap between male and female Counter-Strike.

Originem have completed a move to North American organisation XSET, with the roster set to relocate across the Atlantic at the start of 2021. Julia "juliano" Kiran's team were left without an organisation at the start of 2020 after parting ways with Besiktas, who they had joined in mid-2018.

The squad stuck together and picked up Michaela "mimi" Lintrup at the beginning of the year and competed under WRTP until June, when they renamed to Originem. The team have enjoyed great success in 2020, picking up wins in three all-women tournaments: Ambush Invitational, DreamHack Showdown Summer and Galaxy Racer Invitational.

XSET will have a baptism of fire in DreamHack Open December

Under XSET, the team will be hoping to take the next step in their playing careers and compete against male opposition in higher-profile tournaments.

"We hope to get more results in the male tournaments and to prove that we are a better team and that we can compete with the male teams — maybe not like Tier 1, but Tier 2 and 3," Anastasia "kr4sylya" Khlobystina said in a statement to Dexerto.

The female team competed against male opposition at DreamHack Open Rotterdam 2019, where they were eliminated in 7-8th place following crushing defeats to AVANGAR and Hard Legion. However, they insist they have more to prove and will take their game to another level with practice against tougher opponents.

The team's first test under their new colours will be in DreamHack Open December, in which they will face off against the likes of sAw and Movistar Riders between December 10-13 after qualifying through the Summer Showdown event. They will close out the year in DreamHack's Winter Showdown from December 15-20.

The XSET lineup is as follows:

Sweden Zainab "zAAz" Turkie
Sweden Julia "juliano" Kiran
Denmark Michaela "mimi" Lintrup
Netherlands Petra "Petra" Stoker
Russia Anastasia "kr4sylya" Khlobystina

Correction: An earlier version of the article mentioned that the team would be moving to North America. This has been denied by team member mimi on Twitter.

" the team will take their talents to North America with the aim of taking the next step in their playing careers and competing against the male teams in higher-profile tournaments. " but there is no scene in NA ?

That's the point, they think it's easier to have a tournament spot in NA with a cheap roster

not like they would be going against t1/t2 in EU so if they get in t1/t2 tournaments in NA (which is more like t2/t3 in EU, lol) that would be a profit

They won't make it in NA either if we are being realistic. New England Whalers and other t4-5 teams will still trash them.
2020-11-20 22:00
There is no FEMALE scene at all. Stupid that females get these contracts just because they are girls pretty much. Skillwise they are low players

Maybe they were playing back in 2017/18, but now only mimi is playing.
2020-11-20 23:47
yeah, but if you had 1 female player capable of playing in t1 teams the value of this player would be 10x more for organizations than her male counterparts. especially more so if she was pretty. the orgs would literally shit bricks to sign her, so they could put her face everywhere.

they dont play in normal male teams
2020-11-21 11:55

yeah, but there's no rule that prevents them from playing in normal teams. the reason why there's no female players in top t1-t2 competition is that the small demographic of female players in csgo is unable to produce enough talent.
2020-11-21 13:12

Exactly. Skill wise they would lose to literally something worse that Alternate attax team or you know tiers lower. But since they are women - they get lucrative deals. Just because they are female gamers. And that's the part i dislike

Yo le noob, Some EU Intermediate teams have the level to compete in NA MDL. As for this roster, ils say they are high-end of Advanced/low-end of MDL in NA, maybe they could even reach MDL Playoffs if all goes well.

+1 I don't agree with splitting the pro playerbase by gender, because if we do that the perceived worse will just stay that way and never get better splitting the pro playerbase like this is why NA teams bombed in the recent EU events, because they're used to playing NA which is easier

I don't think the hate is why they're not playing, maybe is because they don't wanna get out of their comfort zone, they can still get paid for doing nothing, playing a few times per year at some girl tournaments, if a team of girls would really want to do something in cs they would try every qualifier and play as much as boys, you can't deny it, they're not working hard enough to get where they're dreaming to get.

Yo le noob, EU Intermediate is easily on the high-end of NA Advanced, some teams have MDL level. Obviously moving this roster to NA will enable them to qualify for higher leagues more easily, and if they make it to MDL, which is far from impossible, they will gain exposure they would never have in EU.
2020-11-20 21:32
1 reply
that doesnt say much. NA advanced is a joke compared to global CS. My point is, if you want to push female CS to new heights you need to start with some fresh players. These girls have been around for years and i havnt seen them even make it far into any open qualifier.
2020-11-20 23:15
Why they just cant prove themself in qualifiers? Like its obvious they going to loose if they only male opponents will be t2-3 teams. Good idea but bad management

“XSET is already the most diverse org on the planet,” co-founder and CEO Greg Selkoe said in a statement. “We looked around and saw that everyone games, but if you looked at a lot of the orgs, they had a similar look and feel: not very diverse, not a lot of women and nota lot of different races represented. We wanted to set up an org from the beginning that was addressing these problems and leading the way.” xDDDDD what a joke

Sad to see so many negative comments from some very opinionated people that know very little about the team. It seems a lot of the toxic ones have been removed and rightly so, a freedom of speech doesn't entitle you to post abuse. Good luck to them. I hope together with an org it will give them more opportunities to grow stronger, they certainly have talent and grind hard. Looking forward to the upcoming Dreamhack events. GLHF

They have been in the female scene since forever. The 9000 year old arki from sAw and chokeistar riders are from the unexisting iberian scene(all spanish orgs have international rosters: G2, Heretics, Mad Lions, Betis...) and yet they will destroy them. I am in favour of females in competitive esports, but I think they should have the same path that other male contenders and not get "male" tournament invites just for being female. Also the term "male" tournament is so dumb, they are mixed tournaments dominated by men.
2020-11-22 19:25
I really hope this goes well.
