FunPlus Phoenix reach agreement to sign GODSENT roster
The current GODSENT team is set to play under a new banner in 2021, pending the signing of individual player contracts.
Petar "peca" Marković, FunPlus Phoenix's General Manager, announced on Twitter that his organization and GODSENT have agreed on the transfer of the roster featuring the likes of Pavle "Maden" Bošković and Martin "STYKO" Styk.
The Chinese organization is now working on signing individual contracts with the players, after which they will officially become members of FunPlus Phoenix.
"The mutual agreement between FunPlus Phoenix and GODSENT about FPX acquiring their CSGO roster starting from 1.1.2021. has been made", peca said in response to a picture that showed Maden and co. as members of FunPlus Phoenix. He noted that "players and their legal representatives" are currently reviewing the contracts before they are "eventually" signed.
At the moment, it is unknown whether Luka "emi" Vuković, who stood in for GODSENT during the final period of 2020 after the removal of Kevin "kRYSTAL" Amend, will have a spot in FunPlus Phoenix, while their coach Jonatan "Devilwalk" Lundberg is expected to make the move alongside the players.
The European mixture has reportedly been in talks with Miikka "suNny" Kemppi, who could complete the lineup by reuniting with former teammates STYKO and Jesse "zehN" Linjala.
The talks between FunPlus Phoenix and GODSENT were reported by HLTV.org as early as October, shortly after peca was unveiled as the General Manager of the Chinese organization. Despite being a Flashpoint founding member, FunPlus Phoenix didn't participate in the second season of the tournament as they focused on building a "promising, long-lasting" roster for 2021.
FunPlus Phoenix, a renowned organization in League of Legends, made its foray into CS:GO in March when they fielded Heroic's roster in Flashpoint 1. However, the deal with the Danish team fell through after Patrick "es3tag" Hansen's move to Astralis, seeing Bad News Bears represent the organization temporarily, in Flashpoint 1 Stage 2. With the signing of the current GODSENT lineup, FunPlus Phoenix would have a roster that is currently ranked #20 in the world.
