fnatic sign Jackinho
The Swedish team have brought in a new AWPer to finalise their roster after the departure of Robin "flusha" Rönnquist.
fnatic have finalized their lineup ahead of the 2021 season with the addition of Jack "Jackinho" Ström Mattsson. The 21-year-old sniper with limited international experience showed promise in domestic competition, prompting Maikil "Golden" Selim and co. to pick him up as they looked to rejuvenate the team.
"Joining fnatic, wow... I'm really honoured and I'm really proud", the youngster said in the announcement video, in which he also praised the player he replaced, flusha. "He is someone I have a lot of respect for, but I will try my best to contribute with my strengths."
Jackinho added that he played quite a bit with Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin over the last year, outside of the team environment. "We have a good natural chemistry, I'd say". Additionally, he posted a TwitLonger, explaining his thoughts at the moment:
"There is one part of me that is still trying to realize that I have achieved one of my biggest dreams and then there is the other part that is hungry and eager to learn, improve and achieve great things with this team for this organisation. This is just the beginning and I can’t wait to tackle this challenge in 2021."
With different mixtures of Swedish players, Jackinho won three domestic tournaments in 2020: Svenska Elitserien Spring 2020, Doritos Open 2, and Yalla Cup Winter. He averaged a 1.29 rating over 15 maps played in the year, although he did not face a single team inside the top 50.
With 48.8% of his total kills being with the "Big Green", Jackinho was expected take over the main AWP role for fnatic, which would see Jesper "JW" Wecksell change back to a rifling role which he played at different points in his career. However, the youngster has confirmed in an interview that the 25-year-old will continue wielding the AWP for the time being, while Jackinho tries out new roles.
"From the beginning, I will not play the AWP but JW will continue with it, and I will try some new roles. But it is a dialogue I had with the coach and our IGL and we have laid out a plan of what we think will work best", Jackinho said.
fnatic are now:
Jesper "JW" Wecksell
Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson
Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin
Maikil "Golden" Selim
Jack "Jackinho" Ström Mattsson
Robin "flusha" Rönnquist (inactive)
