Evil Geniuses eliminate FURIA from BLAST Premier Global Final

Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov and co. won the crucial series 2-1, bouncing back from a poor opening map.

Evil Geniuses stay alive in the $1 million BLAST Premier Global Final 2020 with a victory over FURIA, who were playing with their newly-announced sixth player Lucas "honda" Cano.

The North American team has been out of the spotlight since their last tournament in Europe, when losses to NIP and OG cut their BLAST Premier Fall Series campaign short. Today's victory ensured they don't suffer back-to-back last-place finishes on the Old Continent.

The lower-bracket match started with Inferno, which FURIA won, but Evil Geniuses turned it around after a tight Mirage and a blowout on Nuke. Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz's men will continue the event in the lower bracket, where they will face the loser of Vitality and Liquid next.

Evil Geniuses finally turned things around

The action started on Inferno, Evil Geniuses' map pick and the same map they defeated Astralis on the previous day, but the game was a quite different one this time around. Andrei "arT" Piovezan and his team dominated things from start to finish, with the FURIA in-game leader standing out individually with a 1.66 rating in a 16-9 win.

On Mirage, Evil Geniuses managed to stabilize, winning seven CT rounds in a row after losing the opening three, but FURIA pulled back for an 8-7 half. The back-and-forth continued until the end of the map, but after FURIA brought it to 14-14, Evil Geniuses managed to pull across the line.

The conclusion was reached on Nuke, where Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte and Ethan "Ethan" Arnold were rock-solid, leading their team to a comfortable 11-4 CT half which they converted on for a 16-6 victory.

Honda`s like Flamie and ChrisJ i.e getting highlights but shit in other rounds. Problem is Flamie and BongJ were actually good before they went to shit. Kid`s impressive but lacks apparent experience.

I agree, good take. With junior taking over main awp and if Vini can start playing better, this could be a good lineup for Furia

I'm not saying Furia was overrated but it makes a big difference when EG and Liquid are back together in the same room and playing on 5 ping rather then scattered across a continent playing in their rooms versus a Furia team that was always together. Think Furia is solid but I also think these performances are a regression to the mean. They have some crutches that don't work when the playing field is leveled. Still think it's a top 10 roster but just kind of borderline.

Tbh EG only had a chance because they didn't have HEN1, they would have lost mirage as well if he had been there.

Their relentless aggression just looks mediocre on low ping IMO. It'll catch teams by surprise but they need more depth. They have the riflers to be good so I hope they can develop that.
2021-01-21 10:14
Furia back to being t2. Nothing special. Just that Eg and liquid are coming back to their old self.

It's not about that. Once their rushing strat fails they look really mediocre. That's what happened in blast and iem global's last year. Even in nuke again eg last match. It's clearly visible

I agree it isn't a sustainable strat.I absolutely despise their playstyle, but they took a map off Eg and G2. If Heni was there instead of Honda there is a real possibility they would win at least one of those series.
2021-01-21 11:51
In T2 furia will be strong because of their fast pace. In tier 1 they are a joke. How can you be overpushing, overagressing, overpeeking, overextending everything?? Doesn't matter T or CT just very stupid plays. Glad they got put in their place.
2021-01-21 10:27
Honda waste of Furias time. Another wasted year for br cs it seems.

not today toddynhos. furia super overated, had a good run in the online era, thats it. they kicked their best player, without hen1 the team will go full trash. I wonder if the toddynho kids will keep cheering for furia, or will jump ship, as they always do hahahaha #artOVERATED

2021-01-21 13:35
Art is a good awper we saw some sick plays in recent matches, but his agression is just too much, you cant spend 4750$ just to kill one guy, and them give the other team an awp, art will always be agressive so we need junior asap, the only one who is consistent in the team is yuurih but its not enough to win games.
2021-01-21 14:17
FURIA completely overrated.
