Cloud9 confirm Elmapuddy as new head coach
The Australian will already be in charge of the team in Monday's cs_summit 7 clash against FURIA.
Cloud9 have named Chris "Elmapuddy" Tebbit as the new head coach of their Counter-Strike team, the North American organisation confirmed on Sunday. The Australian will take over from Aleksandar "kassad" Trifunović, who was dismissed at the end of December following a "stylistic clash" with in-game leader Alex "ALEX" McMeekin, according to the organisation's general manager, Henry "HenryG" Greer.
Elmapuddy is no stranger to Cloud9, having worked for the organisation as an assistant coach for nearly three months in late 2019. He left Cloud9 in December of that year and followed in the footsteps of Damian "daps" Steele, Timothy "autimatic" Ta and Kenneth "koosta" Suen in moving to Gen.G.
The Australian, who had begun his coaching career with ORDER, guided Gen.G to victory in DreamHack Open Anaheim and ESL One: Road to Rio during the first half of the 2020 tournament season. Results then took a nosedive after daps and Sam "s0m" Oh left for VALORANT, with Gen.G allowing the remaining members to explore other options before the end of the year.
Elmapuddy will be assisted by Joshua "m1cks" Micks, who has been promoted from his role as an analyst, and will be in charge of the team in next week's cs_summit 7 campaign. The tournament will also mark Erick "Xeppaa" Bach's debut for the team after he was signed as a replacement for Özgür "woxic" Eker.
Cloud9 will take on FURIA in their first match in Group B, which also includes NIP and Virtus.pro. The top two teams of each group will advance to the upper bracket, while the third-placed teams and the best fourth-placed side will move on to the lower bracket.
