FURIA beat Cloud9 in cs_summit 7 opener
FURIA have advanced to cs_summit 7's Group C upper bracket final following a 2-1 victory over Cloud9, spoiling the debut of Xeppaa and making it work with their sixth player, Lucas "honda" Cano, after Paytyn "junior" Johnson was ruled out of the tournament due to ongoing passport and document issues.
The first appearance of the Cloud9 Colossus after the release of Özgür "woxic" Eker, a change which saw Alex "ALEX" McMeekin transition to an AWPing role and the addition of Xeppaa, was a lacklustre one, with FURIA starting strongly on Inferno before making up for a dismal Nuke showing with a one-sided Train victory.
A superb individual showing from Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato, combined with relentless aggression from Andrei "arT" Piovezan on the AWP, gave FURIA the edge on the offense of Inferno, with Cloud9's passive approach to banana backfiring for much of the first half as the Brazilian roster kept up the pressure to claim a 10-5 lead at the break.
Cloud9 replied with a fast-paced stance of their own in the second half, mid-round calls from ALEX proving pivotal in turning the tides for the international team. However, multi-kills from KSCERATO kept FURIA in contention, and despite holding the inferior weapons in round 30, the Brazilian side were able to prevail and edge out their map pick to pull ahead in the series.
The tides turned on Nuke as it was Cloud9 who were the dominant force, the trio of Patrick "es3tag" Hansen, Xeppaa, and Ricky "floppy" Kemery powering their side to a 9-1 lead. Although FURIA clawed back at the end of their CT side, posting five rounds, ALEX's troops remained well in control as they wasted little time taking the map over the line, scoring a 16-6 victory.
It was then Yuri "yuurih" Santos's turn to step into the limelight as he kicked off Train with a quad kill and 1vs3 clutch in the pistol round, aiding FURIA in an early 3-1 lead on the attack. Cloud9 stabilised once they had weapons in hand, posting nine rounds by the break, but were left out of sorts in the second half as FURIA won nine rounds in a row to swiftly claim match point before closing the series just two rounds later.
