Virtus.pro beat fnatic to win third consecutive title at cs_summit 7

The CIS squad dominated the competition as they clinched the victory at the $200,000 event without losing a single map throughout.

Virtus.pro have defeated fnatic 2-0 (Inferno 16-14, Vertigo 16-8) in the grand final of cs_summit 7, completing an unbeaten campaign at the event to win the $90,000 first-place prize and secure their third consecutive title after coming out on top of Flashpoint 2 and DreamHack Open December at the end of 2020.

Inferno was the first map of the grand final and saw Virtus.pro pick up the series advantage after a closely contested affair, in which the lead bounced back and forth. Dzhami "Jame" Ali's side was the first to strike as Terrorists off a quad-kill from Timur "buster" Tulepov in the pistol round, but fnatic did not roll over and dominated the opening gunrounds on the back of a consistent output from Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson.

Virtus.pro clinch third consecutive title at cs_summit 7

In the end, the half went Virtus.pro's way at 8-7 after buster and Jame tipped it in their team's favor with a 2v5 clutch, but their lead did not last long. The Swedes reclaimed the advantage after picking up the second pistol round and looked to close out the map as they reached a 13-10 scoreline, when VP tightened up the defense and started denying fnatic entry into either bombsite to lock down the first map 16-14.

Virtus.pro completed their unbeaten run at the $200,000 tournament on Vertigo. At first, it was heading towards another close result when the two sides were dead even by the end of the first half, with Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis and Jame each putting up a couple of key individual displays to eventually help their team pick up another 8-7 lead.

But once the sides switched, fnatic struggled on the defense, with a quick solo triple from the Latvian star in the last pistol round of the series setting off a successful streak from Virtus.pro, who then only conceded one round in the second half en route to a 16-8, 2-0 victory.

I mean its still a matchup of two teams with top 5-10 potential, like a great quarters or even semis matchup. Vp play really solid cs and have great individuals as well. If navi gets inconsistent again, they could take over CIS #1 spot tbh Fnatic also looked really promising, JW seems to be in great shape (apart from the final) and jackinho also fit in pretty well i think. Krimz rocksolid as always and brollan getting his form as well

And people who says unexpected don't know anything about CS nor didn't watch any VP game lately. Jame is so underrated as an AWPer and an IGL, like the whole team but people are starting to realise how good they are #EZ4VP

VP and Gambit both are really impressive, especially if you consider how young their players are. The days of headless CIS teams like Vega are over, most of them have good fundamentals and stability in their gameplay.

Spirit had decent results vs tier 1 and tier „1,5 teams“ now with degsters they have a bright future hopefully
2021-02-01 15:52
What ? Jame super overrated as an awper, gigantic baiter , I get he is the igl but c'mon, can be way more helpfull sometimes. Anyways its working for them and really happy for them to be proving they belong with the top teams .
2021-02-01 05:33
1 reply
There is a difference between beeing a useless baiter and beeing smart with your own economy. He knows that the AWP is important in gun rounds and nowadays he often saves to drop a gun for his teammates as well, not the other way around. Yes he sometimes overdoes it, but most of the time he just plays the percentage game and saves when he doesn't think he can win the round.
2021-02-01 09:19
Jame isn't underrated at all, everyone knows he is a great awper as far as accuracy goes, albeit not a flashy one. He just became a meme because of the 'baiting', but he clearly is one of the most consistent ones. Some kind of CiS device but with more baiting/ecoing.

Have not seen Golden play this bad for a while. Unfortunate that he underperforms so hard the day of both the semi-final and the final. Jackinho looks good thus far, I'd like to see him play once LAN comes back as that's where Fnatic's strength relies. VP was always a better team in this tournament. It's not only deserved but they also should be higher on the ranking.

On their T-side VP showed to fnatic how to play post-plant situations and prevent “lucky” retakes and defuses. VP was just better than swedes in everything.
