BIG unveil new academy team
The German organisation has finally put together a new roster with top prospects.
BIG announced on Thursday the new members of their academy squad. The five players, all aged between 18 and 19, were chosen after an extensive selection process that began in mid-January.
The initial shortlist consisted of over 120 players who impressed in the German FACEIT hub GoBIG League. The selection panel, which included the academy team's coach, Tugay "TuGuX" Keskin, and BIG legend Fatih "gob b" Dayik, considered several criteria, including potential, tactical awareness and communication skills.
BIG are just beginning to see the fruits of their academy project, which was launched in 2018 to guarantee a steady influx of talent in the German Counter-Strike scene. The previous academy roster, which included current ALTERNATE aTTaX duo Karim "Krimbo" Moussa and Max "PANIX" Hangebruch, peaked at No.80 in the world rankings and won 99Damage Liga Season 15.
"I am very excited to see how the team will develop in the coming months under the leadership of our academy coach, Tugay," BIG CEO Daniel Finkler said in a statement. "He brings a lot of experience from his years as a professional player.
"The goal is clear: We want to prepare these five top talents for a stint at a professional level step by step, together with our partner OMEN, and train their skills accordingly."
BIG Academy, who will compete in the next edition of 99Damage Liga, have the following roster:
